you can just slip you hand under the handle and lift if the handle is down. It's has some spring tension so it has some pressure to stay retracted but it's easy to lift.

There should be no ambiguity here. When you get out of the car and walk away, it will NOT lock itself. That feature does not exist in the Taycan.

However, if your car is already locked and you unlock it by walking past with the key fob or pressing unlock, but you don’t actually open a door, it will automatically re-lock itself after about 60 seconds.
Member here at a different experience. I was aware of the relocking after you didn't open the car door, but I had read from at least one other member that he said his car locked.

I'm struggling to phrase this diplomatically, but "go through the settings, start with locking. it is there somewhere" sets off all sorts of credibility alarms for me. I have a suspicion that that poster jumped to the wrong conclusion from observing the "relock on approach when doors are not opened" feature.

Now and again, I'm distracted when leaving my garage and I'm not quite sure whether I waited to see if the garage door actually closed (sometimes the safety sensor gets misaligned and it will start to close but pop back open before completing). I turn around at the bottom of the hill, drive back up, and visually confirm the garage door state from the driveway.

If the garage had a feature like the Taycan, that act of attempting to check whether the garage door was down or not would actually cause it to close. If there was no unambiguous way to observe from afar whether the car is locked, I don't think it would be possible to distinguish between "'wasn't (and isn't) actually locked, but will be a minute after you walk away again after checking on it the first time" and "locked itself automatically". When you come back to it a second time, it would have been locked, but now that the key is close enough again, it unlocks itself.

The very act of attempting to discern the lock status can alter it under certain circumstances, which is the main reason I agree with my SA that having the mirrors fold automatically on locking provides peace of mind.

I think that’s fair…I just posted that because I was responding to another poster. I had read through that entire thread last night and I had assumed the car didn’t auto lock but that thread confused me. Which is why I said, I’m glad I at least have a definitive answer.

While on the topic, has anything ever been said WHY it is like this? Not having walk-away locking even as an option is a super weird limitation. I can't imagine that there would be any technical limitations preventing them from implementing it either.

Yet again, this is the same company that for some reason refuses to implement one pedal driving as an option, so maybe one shouldn't be that surprised.

Related to locking; if I park my car in my garage and don’t lock it, as mentioned above, the handles go in but the car doesn’t lock. How do I get the handles to come back out if I want to get something from the car when I don’t have the keys on me?
Glad I'm not the only one who missed this. I always manually lock in public but not in the garage. It was two weeks before I tried the door without my key and realized I could open it with the handles retracted.

From reading a ‘21 owner’s manual, it seems that if one just turns off the “automatic unlock when approaching”, you’d get the regular manual/comfort behavior you get with most cars. That is that you either lock/unlock using the key fob buttons or with the comfort sensors in the door handles. That would eliminate a lot of confusion.

Also, the car is supposed to flash once for unlock and twice for lock (opposite from other cars I think) to confirm when that happens.

Got the GTS few days ago. My BMW had a feature where the car would unlock when approaching and lock when leaving. On the Taycan it unlocks when approaching, is there a feature that locks the car automatically when leaving the car? Couldn't find anything in settings.
I too have recently moved from a BMW to GTS. The BMW tech was better (2019) than the GTS (2023). I miss the auto lock, I miss the soft close doors and I really miss the volume reduction at start up (that is drive home from work and into garage with music on high volume, but when I go to work the next morning the volume is automatically lowered at start up). Many other features to list but these are the three I miss the most.

Nope.

Only self locks if you unlock and don't open any door, hood or frunk after 45 secs.

No Porsche self locks on walkaway (thankfully).

That is definitely my experience..gotta admit, tho, my wife is confused because she (like many others) assumes that door handles in closed position=locked.
I set my mirrors to retract when the car is locked so that is the ONLY thing I look for.
The "locking" behavior of this car definitely can cause confusion.
I don’t have the comfort access option but do have the folding mirrors. I note when I use the app to lock the car, the mirrors don’t fold automatically as they do when I use the key.

Just touch door handle as you shut it.

My car locks the doors handle retracts but car is not fully locked as you would lock with a Key when it folds the mirrors and alarm activates. I will fully test later
