- 2020 Taycan 4S
I'm hoping someone can indulge me with answers to a couple of questions about the 12V battery since I don't actually own a Taycan yet (I'm working on it).
1. Is the 12V battery readily accessible? In our e-tron it's located beneath a cover under the hood and can be easily reached. This makes it simple to connect a battery maintainer, if desired, which I do when the car has been sitting for a while. In the Audi, my understanding is that the 12V battery does not charge when the main vehicle battery is connected to the wall charger; it only charges when the car is actually being driven. Is it the same with the Taycan?
2. Is the 12V battery a normal AGM type automobile battery (like in the e-tron) or is it some sort of specialized unit? Lithium maybe?
Thanks.
First, I hope that by the time you have your Taycan this problem will be fixed.
It is a Lithium battery and the US manual (page 282) says
>Never connect jump leads or a the charger di- rectly to the 12 V lithium battery.
So you have to connect only approved chargers to the proper terminal found under a cover in the frunk.
BUT that will probably not solve the dreaded 12v issue since usually the problem is not a fully drained battery. The issue is a software bug that drains the battery too fast and the car detects the drain and disconnect the battery when voltage drops. At this point the car is dead even if the 12v is not. With the current information it seem that the best bet to avoid the problem is not plug in a charger..
