I recently had a “bricking” incident. The car refused to open because the 12 volt was dead. There’s more to the story, because I was telling the Porsche Roadside Assist guy about not engaging the car in Drive when the car turned on and parked about 2 feet facing a wall. He was a nice guy, but it became clear that he did not know about Porsche electric cars.
We know from other threads that once the car turns on the traction battery, the big one, will start to recharge the formerly deceased 12 volt. You only need to jump start for about a minute or two until the car turns on.
But what if the draw from the dashcam operation while driving is sufficient to cause a net negative draw on the 12 volt even with a simultaneous recharge coming from the from the big battery? I’m thinking that may have been a reason the 12 volt was flat.
I do have a kill switch on the dashcam that I engage when parked to prevent draw when the car is parked for long periods. This is a Viofo 2 cam system. Also, this car was parked for about 3 weeks prior to my attempted use. I have parked the car for similar periods of time without incident. Are dashcams big draws on the 12 volt? Thoughts?
