While driving on the track, battery issues are determining much of the fun for me. Unfortunately, there are no 500kW/h batteries yet, I do understand. Also, fast chargers seem not to be placed near tracks.

Besides that, battery temperature issues are really limiting. One full lab on the Nordschleife without thermal power reduction is not possible. About 2 to 3 labs on the Red Bull Ring and the power is gone (high speed, lots of cooling I would imagine). It is not that it shuts off at 55 degrees C, but even in the (upper) 40-degree C range already a power cuts are applied, although not always.

My questions:
  • Does someone know how the power versus temperature is manged? What can I expect and how can anticipate on power cuts?
  • How does this all link to the environment temperature?
  • Is there something tot do about it? For example, a pre-cooling or something?
Looking forward to your learnings and comments!

I wonder if it would be possible/helpful to cut the regen braking and use only mechanical brakes to help reduce the thermal load on the electric powertrain, especially for people with the ceramic brakes.
