I will, once Porsche hatches me a Taycan. Latest ETA, February 2023. So for now, asking members with cars to learn more about it.
Ah, thought you finally got that white whale. Then you can commiserate with the rest of us. ;)

You mean like the center console lid? I kid... I kid...
I've only had my car a month, so that's a function not working that I have to look forward to.

:CWL: I wish. It would be easy to check things like this.

I was genuinely surprised that preheat would not use shore power. I hope at least 12V battery top off does, or else simply keeping the Taycan parked in a garage wears out the main battery.

I don't suppose you can see the actual charge rate on whatever charger you are using. If the battery is at 100% or whatever the target is, the charger should turn off. If you then activate HVAC in the car, the charger turns back on but only at the rate the HVAC is drawing (2-3KW perhaps, so lower than during usual charging), or else the battery would start getting charged higher than the plan (or if it was 100%, there simply is no higher).
Sorry I’ve never checked that. The car is charging now so cannot check but if I remember I will do so tomorrow

What is "it" times out? I've messed with this in 0c weather for nearly an hour to observe what the car does. Though, if my car is the only one that does this, I would not be surprised. Ive gone in for ana6 twice, both times "completed", both times came out with the old icons so I am never sure what was updated and not.
I’d understood, but never checked, that if you are charged to your target level then manually start the pre heat that after the 1 hour timer had counted down to zero it would then start to charge again up to 100%. This could be complete rubbish though.

Mine typically uses 2% to precondition but obviously depends on outside temperature. I think it must use “shore power” to precondition when plugged in as in that scenario my EVSE shows it is drawing about 2kW rather than 7kW and often the charge target is 1% higher than set. And as pointed out above, the battery can’t both charge and discharge simultaneously

So I tried but only got the message "charge point ready -waiting for vehicle". Not very helpful!

Trickle charging will work. When connected to your EVSE and your preheat is on then any top up for your 12v would also be covered.

Note that the actual heater in the car is HV and not 12v.

12v covers seats and steering wheel heating.

12V also runs all the electronics, including remote app access, probably some parts of battery cooling/heating system, and dashcams. The question is what if 12V needs topping off and you are not pre-heating.

Yes indeed but in the context of preheating.

Same answer. If connected to an EVSE it will trickle charge should the 12v start to drop.

I think there is a reference in the manual:

I love this feature! It is so cozy inside! Do use it! In winter, it even warms up the big battery to give it a longer lasting life and an optimal operating temperature (10-30C) for the best consumption and driving experience. Trust Porsche. Features are there to use them, not to break your car.

Yes.
If a timer/profile is active:
-If it's plugged in, it'll preheat the cabin AND the battery.
-If it's not plugged in, it'll only preheat the cabin.
I have to correct myself here.
Apparently, after the uPdate you can preheat the battery WITHOUT being plugged in.
At around 0°C my car preheated the battery to 15°C and it wasn't plugged in.
It drained the HV battery by around 5% (including heating cabin, seat and steering wheel).
If it is below 25% it doesn't preheat, like before the uPdate.
I thought I should mention this.
Corrected the original post.
