Well I woke up today to find the car at 57% charge for my 06:55 departure, despite having set an 85% target.

Despite being connected to a 22kw charger, the car was only pulling c. 4kw when I went to bed last night, but I had assumed it would increase the rate as required to get to the target.

I will try again tomorrow.
Do you have a smart meter? Can you check what it pulled through the night?

AIUI it estimates when to start based on what it's connected to.

Have you seen it pull close to 22kW before? What sort EVSE and leccy tariff do you have?

Thus far, nine's always got to the set level (85%). Though it did charge it Monday (to 85%) when there's no timer to do so!

I can get 22kw when requested via the Zappi app.

We are on the Octopus solar tariff, so no cheap rate overnight.

Had a look at mine this morning... Not plugged in overnight.

Ambient 12.5degC, battery temp 12degC.

So on one anecdotal test, AC charging on a departure time does seem to heat the battery (day before ambient 5degC, battery temp 14degC).

Will try and remember to check it a few more times.
The battery must and will heat due to the charging process. A by product of charging is to generate heat like any other device such as a mobile phone. The chemistry involved assured us of that.

The point here is that 14C is not a preconditioned temp - 32C and above is.

Personally I would not get hung up on preconditioning / heating.

Well I have the Timer set to 85% battery for 06:55 tomorrow morning - The car is currently at 50% charge. Charging is currently ‘paused’, direct charging is ‘off’. No profiles are active.

Does the car know that it can get 22kw and is therefore waiting until 05:00 to start charging (at the max rate) or have I just set something up incorrectly?

@Sidicks, yes that is correct behavior when you use a Timer and the car knows it has plenty of time to get you to the target, so it goes into Pause (Blue), and then gently charges it in short sprints. I really like that functionality. I only have 11kW and I plug in 9 hours before the Timer target time and 85% setting and it goes into Pause mode after detecting and calculating what is connected. Never failed me yet to be at 85% by the departure time.

Precool/preheat, I started it via App with setting of Temp 70F and 2 front seats On. It shows a 60 min countdown, then when I got in the car about 10 min later after I started, which is in a garage, outside temp was 34F, so garage inside is not near 70F, the air blowing from the vents seemed cold and seats did not have heating on, neither did the steering wheel. I assume this feature attempt to just warm up or cool down the interior, using AC settings, my AC is set to Eco, so may be that is why it was not in a hurry to warm up the air coming from the vents.

I certainly thought you could make front seats and wheel heating turned on remotely.

You can on mine.

If I set preheat I get a choice of cabin temperature and whether to switch on the heated seats. The steering wheel seems to be cosen by an algorithm not me.

I have checked with and without and setting preheat also warms the battery more than it naturally warms by charging but with the power available the extra warming is only a few degrees, 10 to 16C rather than 10 to 12C in 40 minutes.

My car was not plugged in and I only let it Preheat for 10 min, since AC typically works very fast when driving. I will now try to set Preheat as part of the Timer overnight and it will be plugged in.
I just need to be able to confirm that it will be warm inside and seats will be heated by the Timer target time, and may be the steering wheel will warm up as well.

I will report back on how it goes.

I actually usually only pre-heat for 10 minutes too since the cabin is quickly warmed and in my case the seats were on if I selected on in the app and the wheel was warm on vey cold days,

I have probably only done it plugged in though.

The longer pre-heat I only tried to see if the battery warmed more than it did just with the charging current - it did do but not by much 600kg of solid material will take a fair bit more energy to warm up than a few grams of air and leather.
