Burmeister is currently causing a stop sale on my Cayenne Turbo GT - so supply chain seems to be hitting some other models for Burneister.
Sorry to hear that about the Burmeister option for the Cayenne, but fortunately Porsche options a different although similarly named brand, Burmester, for the Taycan.

If I went from Bose to base I'd just not accept the car. Only some much compromise you can do before it's not the car you want.
One more thing I noticed in this Bose saga is that in prior year Taycan models, the Bose option had the following description: BOSE® Surround Sound System with 14 speakers including subwoofer and a total output of 710 watts. But if you are in the configurator right now for a 2023 build and it still allows you to select the Premium Package with the Bose option, it now reads: BOSE® Surround Sound System with 12 loudspeakers including center speaker and a subwoofer integrated into the vehicle body. Fully active sound system with a total output of 555 watts. Comparing these two descriptions, Porsche is clearly downgrading the Bose radio from prior year models.

Still showing 14 speakers and 710 Watts on UK configurator

Maybe because some owners say that Bose is very good and 5k more for Burmester doesn't make much sense now so they took out 2 speakers to make it worse.

I see Porsche is trying to do small minor little things that they hope people won’t notice lol

Embarrassed to say I thought it was -meister this whole time as well. Mini mandela effect here going on.

On the subject of Bose, that is quite a scummy move by Porsche here. They should be reducing the price if the sound produced by the new system is not identical in clarity and power to the previous iteration.

Now I'm wondering if I'm getting the new, presumably gimped Bose system since I was originally supposed to be MY22... And I'm paying more money for a 23.

It’s odd how the UK has the same one…worth checking with dealer if there is a change to what you signed off on… i had the same with electrical steering column which thankfully was on my car but removed from other peoples cars…

Did the price go down when the change happened? If so, by how much?
It didn't ?. It was just ...erased. I was on the fence about the Premium package, and the inclusion of Bose was basically the deciding factor (in favor). It was disappointing to see Porsche did not adjust the price of the package - even by a bit, if not the full cost of the standalone Bose option.

So they diluted the spec while keeping the price the same. That is one form of inflation, like buying same brand toilet paper rolls for the same price as before but realizing at home the rolls are smaller (less sheets and/or paper is thinner).

I hope they will install the higher end Bose if someone’s build froze while it was still showing the 14 speaker Bose in it (mine did). Otherwise I wonder if that would fall under "bait and switch" consumer protection laws. For those who order while the new description is showing, it is what it is, no different than when the price went up for my build as I converted from MY22 to MY23 because I never got an allocation for MY22.

This is exactly what has just happened to Range Rovers but RR is 10x worse. They downgraded everyone from the "Signature" 1700w system to the "3D" 700w system for no reduction. Those who are just about to go into production were offered a £1100 "goodwill" reduction for agreeing to lose a circa £3,000 option...

Hope that makes you feel better about the Bose change, it could be worse!

Playing Devil's advocate here.

For a start the car environment is bad for quality music both because of background noise and the impossibility of getting the speaker units at acoustically good distances from the listeners. So good sound in a car is an oxymoron (and I tried wallet bruising systems for years before giving up)

Secondly simply having more drivers isn't necessarily better. Fewer higher quality drivers will be potentially better, maybe even much better.
Also better quality drivers usually have higher efficiency so need less power for the same loudness.

I am not saying it must be, but this new Bose system may well be just as good as the old actually and require less power so less electrical losses.

I'd been wanting to post along those lines but, unlike yourself, I'm lucky enough to have taken delivery as spec'ed so I thought I should keep my counsel. It's been decades since I kept up to date on "proper" hi-fi kit, but when I did, 2 speaker boxes each with 2 drivers, powered by a valve amp with no control other than on-off and volume and an apparently feeble 25w output, could be quite capable of delivering gutsy performance of even rock material (seriously outperforming some monstrous multi-driver speakers powered by 200w amp through a graphic equaliser, as seen in Tandy/Radio Shack outlets).
