Have had a new MY23 RWD for a few weeks now.
I’m trying to use the brake hold function on the car (find these things especially useful at long traffic lights) but I have no idea how to “activate” it…
Tried holding the brake pedal down hard for a few seconds and also tried tapping the brakes quickly.
Nothing seems to turn the function on…
Any ideas?

Typically just push down hard/quick. May need to release a little first if it’s already pushed in relatively far.

Honestly I tried all iterations of pushing down the brake pedal with various speeds and hardness/softness…
Why don’t they just make it easy like if you hold brake Down for 3 seconds it activates automatically?
Trying to time the quickness/softness/hardness of how you have to push down is stupid….

It’s not typically difficult. When I use it, I don’t feel like I’m doing anything special or trying really hard. Maybe something wrong with your car?

Have you tried it when you were on an incline? I found mine kicks in when I'm sitting on an uphill slope with the brakes applied.

For me it works as described in the Good to Know app, below. I use the hold feature at every stoplight, whether on a slope or level road. I just press and hold the brake pedal with gentle to moderate force for a second or so, until the green hold indicator illuminates on the center screen.

Kinda of afraid it might be a malfunction of the car or weird software

yes I didn’t think it was anything complicated to activate. Just thought if you press it down it should activate.
Afraid it might be some issue with the car. Just didn’t want to have to take it in to get it checked out for such a minor issue…

Just takes a firm press. Doesn’t have to be quick or super hard. Only caveat is that it only takes a very light press on the accelerator to get it to release.

It takes a firm press after you've already stopped ... Almost to the floor.

Given the value and importance of this I think you should take it in - its super simple to activate (as described here). At the dealership ask an intake specialist in the service dept. to sit in your car and try it. They'll know if it needs service or not before you commit to lose your vehicle for a few days.

you don't need to press firm or hard, but it has to be a more sudden press. For example, a very slow press all the way down won't trigger the hold.
Play with it a bit in a safe place - come to a very gradual full stop by holding just a bit of the brake. This will stop the car but you won't see the HOLD green sign. Once the car is fully stopped, do a more sudden tap down on the brake. It doesn't have to be hard and it doesn't have to be to the floor, but it has to be sudden.

Does it work on new cars out of the box?

I only discovered it (on here) after owning the car a few months.
Just wondering if its like regen and only starts working after a certain time, as the OP's car is new, or something.

Just thinking out loud....

Normally a light pressure on the brake pedal when the car is stationary works and no need to press hard or stab it

Sensitivity of the auto hold can be set in the PCM which kicks in if the car starts to roll.

This.
The key part is "the car is stationary", then press the brake further down lightly without lifting up.
Works 100% of the time since I got the car.

Yeh once at a standstill flat, slope whatever a good hard push down turns the Hold light straight on. If that is not your experience take it to service.
