believe it or not, i don't often press my brake light and then run around the car so fast i can see what it looks like while it's illuminated. i'm ALMOST that fast. almost

followed my wife in my car today - and noticed the large light bar wasn't lighting when the brakes were pressed

Porsche Taycan Brake (Rear) Light bar not illuminating 1705868320922

i see VERY few other Taycans where i am - and it made me wonder - i thought they were like rear daylight running lights on 100% of the time, but i guess not -

1) are these supposed to be lit all the time?
2) are these supposed to light when brakes are pressed?
3) supposed to light when brakes are pressed at night/when headlights are on?
4) supposed to be only when the headlights are on/at night - nothing to do with the brakes
5) i'm on drugs there's no such thing as a long light bar crazy man

i googled and found 1 - 2 other pictures of Taycans with lights showing what mine does - but most online photos have that light bar lit across the rear - whether the brakes are activated or not

she's still out and about - i haven't had a chance to play with it in the dark garage and see - wanted to post before i forgot...

PS - yes, the snow is actively falling I'LL WASH IT TOMORROW SHUT UP

The brake lights are only at the ends. The rest of the bar lights up at night but the illumination level for that portion does not change when you hit the brakes. I only know this because I was following my wife who was driving our Taycan at night.

What he said. The photo show the brake lights. The light bar illuminates when the lights are switched on either by overriding the auto function or in auto when it gets dark enough. You have daytime running lights that illuminate at the front all the time but not at the rear - at least hats how it works in Europe. It’s one of my bugbears that drivers in europe don’t switch their lights on in the rain but leave in auto with no rear conspicuity.

Most cars with an auto function will switch lights on when rain sensor gets triggered. When foggy it is a bigger issue.

In the past it was even formally forbidden to turn on backlights in combination with day running lights. These days manufacturers can choose themselves. Talking about EU here.

Personally I prefer that my rear lights are off during daytime. It’s a pitty that Porsche doesn’t let us choose ourselves in the settings.
