Did you ask them to back it up with some official recommendation from Porsche? Sounds totally made up.
Well it's the horse's mouth, Porsche.
Plus reading last night on Motor Trends this month's issue indicated the same advice. From expert reps of chargers. So that's twice in a month the same advice. Shall we further check with Princeton, Stanford, Bonneville Power Association and Tennessee Valley Authority?
Tell you what., I'll check with my nephew who's an electrical engineer with masters. Works for Paccar at the research center in Bow ,WA.. deveoping the hydrogen battery trucks that are imminent.

SA is the wrong horse. A Porsche bulletin, or user manual, would be from the horses mouth. SA's repeat a number of urban myths, or make up their own (the best one I heard was a customer being told that their car in transport from Germany is extra protected vs. other Taycans on the same transport). As usual, those myths are based on a small grain of truth. For example, yes, faster charging is does in fact put more strain on the battery than slow charging, but so does driving the car vs. leaving it parked, yet SA doesn't recommend to not drive the car to preserve the battery. Bottom line in this case is that Porsche gives us 8 year battery warranty. The recommend 80% for daily charging limit, though it's not a requirement. They implemented "battery friendly charging" which limits the car to 200KW. I really would not obsess over it. I charge to 80% daily, 100% if you plan a trip, DC charge whenever I need it. I did the same (except daily 90% as it was the manufacturer recommendation) with 4 Teslas over the last decade, the longest of which I kept 8 years - the batteries help up really well (worst degradation was under 4% after 8 years, the one I still have is 5 years old with 2.3% degradation). You could argue that Tesla batteries may be different than Porsche, and you'd be 100% correct, but that means that there would mean that Motor Trends advice does not apply unless specific to Taycan, same about your nephew, unless he works for Porsche. So in the end, all we can rely on are official manufacturer bulletins and documented recommendations.

These aren't sales agents. They are delivery representatives of Porsche. My "sales agents" have been 10,000 miles away before when I've picked up vehicles in Germany and 1600 miles this time at the Los Angeles Experience Center. Google It!
Not a Porsche dealership. They deliver 1 to 2 cars per day. 3 hours of track time with various Porsches from Taycan to Cayenne (on and off road) to GT3.
