Changed out my wheel caps

Pretty mild, as far as a mod or customization but I figured I'd post this all the same. Santa read my letter and decided I was pretty good this year, so he brought me some new wheel caps with the full color Porsche crest. I put them on tonight with minimal effort (gotta love assorted plastic trim tools) and am loving the new look, as it adds some extra color to the otherwise fairly monochrome side profile.

I wonder if you have to remove the wheel to push them out from the inside.
We had someone try to pry them out without success in a sketchy part of town on the Macan, resulting in scratches on the wheels so even replacing the caps did not fix the damage.
These have interesting silver ring around them. I understand there are several styles of these.

My PPF and Ceramic installer trashed my first set of caps by trying to remove them incorrectly. AFAIK the only way to do it without damage to either the caps or wheels is to remove the wheels and pop them from behind.

My PPF and Ceramic installer trashed my first set of caps by trying to remove them incorrectly. AFAIK the only way to do it without damage to either the caps or wheels is to remove the wheels and pop them from behind.

There is a slight indentation along the edge below the crest point and that's where I pried. Plastic trim removal tools and patience got all four originals off from the front without any issues or damage.

Looks great - it’s strong that the emblems on the car match. I thought about doing the same with mine but thought the wheels needed to be pulled. What tools did you use to remove the caps ?

Just simple plastic trim removal tools I bought off Amazon a few years back plus a towel on the ground just in case. It took me about 20 minutes at most.

This thread is 1.25 years old, so just checking... A youtube video says that recent versions of the caps have a theft-reduction design that requires a "special tool" for removal and therefore only a dealer can replace caps. Would the "special tool" perhaps be in a common plastic trim tools kit as discussed above? In short, can I replace existing monochrome caps with colored ones myself on a 2025 Taycan?

Don't know if it requires a special tool, at least it’s not included in the set that came with the car.. Had mine replaced 2 weeks ago, together with changing from 20” winter tires, to 21” summer. The mechanic just pushed them out from the inside. Changed from monochrome, to the colored crest.

Pushing the cap out from the inside requires removing the wheel, no?

Did the same the other day on mine. Removal is easy. There should be a couple of small holes in the black part of the crest. Just pop the end of an allen key through and pull it out. Mine were missing the holes so I just drilled a small one in the place they should be and popped them off.
