The contribution from the door vents is about 1% gain in mileage. You can figure this out with the mileage calculators from Porsche.de or the Porsche UK website, or you can check the US mileage numbers - they are all consistent.

https://www.porsche.com/uk/models/taycan/taycan-models/

If you go to the UK website, you can specify a Taycan Turbo with 21" Mission E wheels AND THE MANUAL CHARGE PORT, you get a mileage range of 209 miles. The Turbo S with the exact same 21" Mission E wheels AND THE ELECTRIC CHARGING PORT gets 206 miles. This is a difference of ... get ready... 3 MILES!! I would say the only difference between the two cars that might cause the 3 mile difference is the side vents. This seems reasonable to me.

First of all, I couldn't find a mention of 206 and 209 miles on the UK website you've linked to. My bad, perhaps. What I did find is that when I look at the technical specs for a Turbo on the UK site with and without the automated door vents I get essentially the same "range of ranges":

With Auto charge flaps:

Porsche Taycan Charge Port Cover - Increased Drag Raange Turbo ACP

With manual charge flaps:

Porsche Taycan Charge Port Cover - Increased Drag Raange Turbo MCP

Based on these numbers, there appears to be no way to break out the effects of the charge flaps alone. It would be really surprising if the configurator had that degree of specificity anyway, where you could see in real time the effect on range of adding or deleting certain options. Instead, you're being shown numbers for the maximum and minimum range one can expect across the individual model range taking all options into consideration. Trying to develop a mathematical proof from these numbers is likely futile.

Just my $.02. Apologies, I think I've probably beaten this poor horse to death.

has anyone ever attempted a retrofit? The PCM shows port control greyed out in the control screen. That is really unusual for Porsche, in that they typically don't build anything for later changes down the road.

That said, I wonder if its a indication that with the right OEM gear it could be installed or converted either way.

It's a silly option that adds more complexity to an already complex car, IMHO. The regular charge cover works just fine.
Frank -- now that you have had the car for a while, have you had a problem with chips getting in through the vents and marking up the doors? There were a few reports that because the vents were somewhat blocked by the motor controlling the door, it helped cut down on rock chips. Your experience?

18 months in 4S with manual ports for me.
No ppf or ceramic coatings!
The vents did get some muck and crud inside them but there are fins inside which make it hard for stones to fly clean through and nothing ever got through and my doors are immaculate.

I will say again that the when the ports are shut the manual ones look better. Cleaner lines! No bit of black plastic stuck on!
The electric ones look cool when working and you are showing your mates but are inconsistent in heavy rain and can get stuck in extreme cold. As said above, unnecessary complications!

Yep, with you on this. If there was any significance to the additional drag on range I’m sure it would be a selection option on tje range calculator as much as wheel size (a significant factor). Any difference between Turbo and Turbo S is likely more weighted towards drivetrain/tuning than the charge flap. (and lets not get into the weight of the driver ?)

To each his own. I like the Power doors. Cool feature and I like the little plastic trim. Breaks up a lot of body work. To me it looks the best on the white cars, but I like it on my black one too.

Could careless if it impacts range. I want it to look good. I can get more juice a little earlier, but I have 278 miles of range on 100% and I know a pit stop will be in order before I run out on a long drive. :)

Could one not lose some lard from ones fat ass?

A few KG weight saving over 250 mile expected range would surely reduce the drag coefficient far more than an innocuous piece of plastic.

If the manual ports were smaller, I might have gone that route, but they just look huge on the car to me. The power ones also have the advantage of the fin following the styling lines of the car and the closed vents. Worrying about the drag coefficient impact is comical.

Different people care about different things. Some care about deviated stitching, some care about paint correction, some care about handling, some care about power and/or range, some about drag coefficient, etc. Different people have different priorities and care about different things. People buy Porsches for very different reasons, from status symbol to show off to the neighbors which they wash every week to performance driving and washing the car couple times a year. If everyone cared about the same things, Porsche would not have many options.

You have just solved all discussions about colors, options, engines and interiors choices in one post. Most threads have become useless from now on. ?
And your post is spot on.

Not quite - such threads can still be useful to people who share similar likes to discuss what they like, technical specs which they care about, and maybe even ways to make things even even better and/or more enjoyable. It can be rather enjoyable to obsess about same things with like-minded people, and perhaps even educational by possibly learning from someone who takes said obsession to the next level (or higher!). Apparently these threads also provide comic relief to people like @Archimedes who finds other people's likes which don't align with his own comical. ;)
