Had my Porsche charger cable and software updated yesterday under the recall. Got home and immediately get a fault stating the device is temperature is too low. It’s nearly one hundred degrees where I am and the charger itself shows a temp of about one hundred and five degrees. This fault persists after rebooting and pulling / reseating the plug.

the dealer has no luck getting an answer from Porsche tech hotline and their tech specialist has no knowledge of even this type of fault. Someone on another forum experienced this same issue after their charger was updated under the recall. They were advised by Porsche to leave the unit out in the sun or try a hairdryer (per their post).

I’m taking the charger back to the dealer today and will press for a replacement under warranty if they cannot sort out.

Is anyone familiar with this issue ?

this is a new problem - but not a new behavior from Porsche when presented with EVSE problems…just one of the reasons to avoid using the Porsche EVSE is that when presented with problems Porsche has an utter lack of knowledge/experience/training/ability to provide any meaningful customer support for their EVSE product. They can not provide effective support for even rudimentary problems and end up making things worse or simply suggesting customers ignore the problem, and sometimes provide simply incomprehensibly "wrong" information.

Porsche continues to dig a hole for their EVSE game and they seem to be making things worse

my recommendation is to abandon/store the Porsche EVSE and get a high quality offering from another EVSE vendor - it will provide power to charge your Taycan just fine…

there are lots of threads about alternatives withe far fewer problems than the Porsche EVSE.

get another EVSE and move on - the Porsche product is not your time or effort.

agreed

I do have another brand of charger at a second home and it works fine.

I was about to purchase a new one for this home but held up when Porsche advised they had the replacement part. Figured I’d at least allow them a chance to demonstrate viability. We’ll see what today’s visit brings. If still an issue then I’ll definitely get another charger.

Porsche's North American charger is crazy crazy expensive when not purchased/provided along with a vehicle…I can not recommend anyone ever purchase a Porsche mobile EVSE (PMCC/PMC+) - I'll tolerate using the one that came with your vehicle if it's working for you - but to purchase a Porsche PMCC/PMC+ is simply insane in my opinion.

the Porsche Wall Charger is acceptable as an EVSE - but still has issues - but at least it's price is reasonable and it provides 100/80 amp service in North America.

I had my original charger go bad and had Rusnak Porsche blame my house. They initially refused to replace the charger and later agreed to. Now I get a "Device" temperature is too low. I live in southern California. It is not cold here. I have three 240 outlets at my house and get the same message when I plugged the unit into all the outlets. Any idea what is going on?

bad temperature sensor in the power supply cable most likely - you'll need a new power supply cable…or just simply switch to a non-Porsche EV charger (EVSE) and be happy - the porsche chargers are simply crap…there is a long history of them being problematic

post #3 of this thread seems very relevant - https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...device-temperature-too-low.20471/#post-313327

well, one year later from my original note above and four years on from buying the car, I still do NOT have a working charger.

this time last year, I just gave up fighting with Porsche who flatly refused to replace the defective charger. I’d already purchased a different one. The dealer never could get mine working and continued to get the same ‘too cold’ error message despite trying several replacement plugs and a whole new charging unit.

fast forward to March / April (now) - tried a different dealer just for the sake of it when taking the car in for several recall updates. Turns out there was an unannounced recall and Porsche changed out the main connection cable to the car itself plus updated the charger yet again. However, they now cannot source the replacement plug so I still have a brick and no idea when the replacement plug will show up. Three plus months have now passed.

My bet is the plugs aren’t being available or are hung up in this tariff BS.

Porsche continues to impress with their "support" of their EV chargers - one of the main reasons to avoid Porsche as your EVSE (EV charger) vendor is:

just one of the reasons to avoid using the Porsche EVSE is that when presented with problems Porsche has an utter lack of knowledge/experience/training/ability to provide any meaningful customer support for their EVSE product. They can not provide effective support for even rudimentary problems and end up making things worse or simply suggesting customers ignore the problem, and sometimes provide simply incomprehensibly "wrong" information.
this pattern of behavior continues to this day.
