We will soon be setting off on a trip to France via the Eurotunnel, from Calais though to St Jean de Losne (south of Dijon).
According to Google maps, this takes me on the A26, A5 and A31 - I wondered if anyone had frequented this route and can recommend the best places to stop for charging, which could could encompass a number of areas:
- highest speed chargers
- highest number of chargers
- most reliable chargers
- best facilities
- Ionity stations (or other Porsche subsidised chargers)

Thanks

I would recommend using Ionity and FastNed.
But I would also install the Tesla app as a backup. They have so many chargers per location, that you will always find one that is available.
It is a bit slower, and it is a bit less user friendly with the short cables, but it is a good backup plan.

There are plenty of Ionity chargers along that route. I have done it several times. Good backup is to find Fastned on the return trip on the A26 else you may have to make a loop to catch the Ionity on the other side. Doable but unneccesary. The ABRP app is your best friend. The Porsche navigator can be programmed at home to set all these Ionity station along the route as favourites and you are good to go. Avoid Total, they are not working with Porsche card. And yes have a backup with Tesla open gor all. Cheaper than Porsche services ex Ionity. The per minute charge can kill the rates!

There are so many chargers around now that you will have no problems finding suitable ones.

A very good app for finding chargers is ChargeFinder. Very suitable filters.

And if you are staying in one place for a while sign up with ChargePoint Austria and use Lidl chargers. Some rates ther are jus 0.25 Euro per kWh! and they have a lot of 50 and 150 kW units.

Enjoy your trip

Thanks all!

I have the ABRP app, the Fastned app, the Tesla app and a fair number of other apps! I think there is also a Tesla charger at the Eurotunnel in Calais If I can get that far on the way home?

I will definitely be adding the Ionity chargers as favourites on my Sat Nav, and your advice on the A26 for the return journey is really helpful.
Thanks!

Yes there is Tesla SC at the normal parking and one at the Flexiplus. There is also one in Folkstone. Nice to charge if you are waiting anyway. At Calais, Ionity Coquelles is cheaper and faster. Five minutes from the tunnel so you can use it on arrival and leaving. And it was faster than the one in the UK and has more chargers. Is you can chose I would go for this one.

It’s a doddle in France. I’ve driven the the Alps 3 times now and it’s a joy, 250+ charging everywhere. Plug and Charge or Porsche card are all you need. Relax and enjoy the drive, France is how it should be.

Only gap is Champfleury (Reims) to Chateauvillain (beyond Troyes) so worth getting close to 90% both ways at those. There is an IONITY at Troyes but it’s a bit of a detour.

Agree with others about the number of chargers now available in France, although Ionity Champfleury can get very busy so may be worth looking for other options (e.g. Baralle then Troyes). Also, if you’re on Octopus for home it is worth getting their Electroverse card/app - a number of stations in France are much cheaper through that than theough other cards/apps (we got a 250kW charge just north of Paris for 25p/kWh). Enjoy your trip.

Thank you. We have energy with Octopus and already have an Electroverse card!

Am envious of your road trip, thus feel the need to cause confusion out of jealousy: if your Taycan is a UK spec car, you may find the French chargers won’t work as your car will be trying to negotiate charging in English whilst the charger will be speaking in French! ??

….enjoy your trip, hopefully I will be able to enjoy once mine is delivered.

As I'm just back from another round trip to the Alps and it's worth updating that there is now a bank of 300kw chargers halfway between Reims and Troyes both ways at Aire de Sommesous and Aire de Champagne about 30kms east of Reims both sides has 12-16 300kw units plus some Tesla.

Also new additions of 6 x 350kw at Moutiers on the side of the N90 and 6 x 300kw at the big supermarkets car park in Bourg St Maurice which are ideal for a fill up while shopping.
