Question about the comfort access feature… I have mine turned on so that when the keys get near it, the handles present themselves and the mirrors unfold. When I walk away, the handles tuck back in and the car chips as if it locks, but the mirrors don’t fold back up. They just stay down. The only time they fold up is when I hit the lock button on my key. Is this some sort of setting I need to fix or is it a bug? Does walking away from the car truly lock it or does it only lock if I hit the lock button on the key?

Mine does the same, the auto-locking seems to forget the mirrors unless you actually lock the car with the touch or the remote. Another thing that gives the car electronics "personality"; it's like a hormonal teenager, you just don't know how its going to behave from day-to-day :)

Porsche Taycan Comfort access folding mirrors? 1655911085400

Door handles presenting themselves is the Expanded Comfort Access feature on my RWD that I picked up less than two weeks ago. I unchecked it.

I use the regular
Comfort Access, and the side mirrors fold in if I touch the lock notch on any door handle, click the lock button on the key fob, or walk away from the car without locking it. For the third, apparently the car locks itself when the key fob is out of range.

NEXT-DAY EDIT: CORRECTION - when I walk away from the car the door handles retract but the side mirrors do not fold in. The doors don't lock either. Sorry about my mistake.

Does the car actually auto-lock itself when you walk away? My car is parked in the garage and while the door handle retracted after I went inside the house, it remains unlocked and I can go open the car door w/o the fob.

I checked the manual and do not see anything about auto-locking with walk-away feature. I know my Teslas have that function.

Fold down mirrors are an individual setting on the PCM. Check they are enabled?

This is standard operation and not a bug. A shortcoming in functionality perhaps or an energy saving measure as the car hasn't been powered on to top up your 12v.

Essentially, if you approach the car the handles will deploy (if comfort setting enabled), mirrors unfold and the car will unlock. If you don't open a door, trunk or frunk or walkaway the car will remain unlocked (after 45 secs) and the mirrors will not fold.

I guess this is a visual warning to remind you that the car was opened and not locked with either the fob or touching one of the door sensors.

*** CORRECTION

So something has changed in 16 months!

I just tried now and the car will now lock and the alarm set if no door / trunk / frunk is opened. The mirrors remain deployed.

A year ago I'm 99% certain the car would not be locked.

'Walk-away' locking after driving is not a feature (safety etc as someone could remain in the car for example).

It doesn’t auto-lock when you walk away.

With nearly all cars, if you unlock the car with the remote and then do not open a door within a certain period the doors look again.

The Taycan does the same. This extends to comfort access, if the car unlocks due to the proximity of the key and a door is not opened within a certain period, the doors will lock again. It is not the act of walking away, it’s a door not being opened within a period of the doors being unlocked.

When it relocks in this manner, the mirrors don’t fold again. Not sure if this is a bug or by design.

Thank you for the correction - the reason the mirrors don't fold is that the car doesn't auto lock if no door, frunk or trunk is opened after 45 seconds. The door handles will simply retract. The logic I assume (not a bug) is that you may still want to access the car but got distracted. You can pull on the retracted handle and open the door. It also serves a purpose in reminding you the car is not locked.

I did know this but putting it down to a senior moment on my part!

No locking on 'walk-away' is not a feature after driving the car.

My car does not lock if I don't manually lock it. If I walk away without locking it, the mirrors remain in the normal position and the door handles will fold in. In this state, if I walk up to the car without the key FOB, I can pull out the door handle and open the door.

Gents, I was wrong and corrected my comment #3 above. Thanks for prodding me to check more rigorously. Apologies for my mistake and ensuing confusion.

When I close the door and walk away from the car without locking it (and putting both key fobs in a Faraday cage), the door handles retract but don't lock, and the side mirrors don't fold in. BTW I do have 'folded side mirrors' checked in the PCM.

Right, so this is the expected behaviour as the mirrors will only fold if you lock the car either with the fob or by touching the small indent on any of the door handles or via the close & lock button in the trunk where Comfort Access has been optioned.

Unlocking the car but not opening any door, trunk or frunk will result in the door handles deploying, door mirrors unfolding BUT after 45 secs the handles will retract, the mirrors remain unfolded and the car unlocked.

Basically, if you see your door mirrors unfolded and you haven't done this manually then your car is not locked.

**** CORRECTION

Unlocking the car but not opening any door, trunk or frunk will result in the door handles deploying, door mirrors unfolding BUT after 45 secs the car will lock and the alarm is armed, a while after that the handles will retract and the mirrors remain unfolded.

So something has changed in 16 months!

To preserve my sanity I just tried now and the car will now lock and the alarm set if no door / trunk / frunk is opened. The mirrors remain deployed.

Correct - normal operation.

Walking away from an unlocked car will not do anything (some cars have this but not the Taycan - I guess you could be leaving someone / animal in the car and could become a safety issue as well as triggering the motion sensor.

Yes - no locking on 'walk-away' after exiting the car.
