I saw someone save $42K buying a used 4S with only 2600 miles....and with a CPO warranty better than new.

The smart money right now is on doing that.
Yup, I saved $50k on a 2022 Turbo. Only 1850 miles on it. Perfect condition with lots of options. Was only missing RWS but at that discount I frankly didn't care. Sticker was $188k+ and I got it for $139,500 in mid July.

I put a deposit down April 2022.. car finally arrived at Baltimore port on August 30, 2023… still don’t have the car. Last week doctor told me I have cancer…

There was another member of the forum that mentioned a little while back that he too has cancer…. I hope that he is enjoying his Taycan to the fullest….

I too am at a crossroads as to whether I should accept the car but for a totally different reason than you.

Get the vehicle that you really want and enjoy it. Ultimately it has to be your decision and your decision only…. People will give you their thoughts and tell you what they would do or have done……Life is short and things can change in the matter of seconds….. tomorrow is not promised……….

Just saying some folks have really serious crossroads when deciding whether to accept a vehicle that they have planned for, spec’d and have been looking forward to getting and it has taken way longer than they had anticipated but life throws them a real curve ball…..

I hope no one on this forum comes after me for this post!!
It sounds like you don't have details yet, but my very best wishes to you and your family. I hope your cancer is one that has a good prognosis for treatment and full recovery.

First and foremost, please focus on your personal health and wellbeing. Time with your family and friends is always important, more so now. However, assuming your life has space for a new car, then I'd go ahead with your purchase. The Taycan is everything I hoped it would be with the exception of the high-speed DC Charging network (EA reliability and performance can be very spotty). If your driving is not impinged by this diagnosis, then a Taycan is a great way to go, and I think you'll enjoy every minute.

Good luck!

@snstevens… yes, you are correct. Having had a multitude of test we are still waiting results.

I am leaning toward accepting delivery as I have been looking forward to owning a Taycan since I saw it debuted in the 2020 NFL Super Bowl commercial... Barring any further delays the car should be delivered to the dealership next week 9/21.

Thanks for the encouragement to move forward and the well wishes.

I'm considering canceling my order if the car isn't released by the next predicted date, which is the 21st of this month. It's completely insane that they can just sit on a car for six months and not give it to me, and I'm at the end of my patience. I drove a Lucid this week and came away impressed, and they will actually give me a car in exchange for money.

When I ordered the Taycan, they charged me 10% of MSRP up front, with the condition that it became non-refundable once the car entered production. I suspect they have me over a barrel on this one, but if anyone has any advice I'd be happy to listen.

So, for people who cancelled or threatened to cancel, did you have any success negotiating a lower price or retrieving a deposit?

No real advice other than to talk to your dealer and see what your options are. The idea of losing $10k-$15k to get a car that won’t drive as well as a Taycan isn’t very appealing to me. Also, there is the question about whether Lucid will be here in 10 or 15 years. You know that Porsche will be.

Yes, I would certainly prefer not to lose the deposit, which is why I asked if anyone had any luck getting theirs back. The Taycan might be better, but it's entirely notional since Porsche doesn't seem to want to sell me one. Lucid will actually give me a car. For purposes of this exercise though, feel free to substitute "used Taycan" for "Lucid."

I'm mostly just wondering if there's any chance my sales guy doesn't laugh in my face when I ask if there's room to negotiate. There may be a bunch of used ones available, but new ones are a lot harder to come by and new CTs are basically non-existent. I suspect he'd be able to sell mine to someone else pretty easily, even though it's a 2023. Being able to keep my deposit and sell the car to someone else is free money for him.

If you want a Porsche. Then try to get a 911 instead. Seriously, they are better value and would hold value better even though both depreciates. The only advantage is that the Cross Turismo can do poor driving conditions driving, I assume and waiting for winter to test it out. If you got the Sedan then, you don't need a brain to make the switch.

@summerlion, your profile does not say which state you live in, and it might be relevant. California, for example, forbids nonrefundable deposits. At any point before you have actually entered into a purchase agreement and taken delivery of the vehicle, if you cancel your order, it would be illegal for the dealer not to refund all of your money.

Virginia, alas. Not exactly the most consumer-friendly of the states. Who know? Maybe this time the car will actually get released from Jacksonville and make the whole thing moot. My preference is still to buy the car I ordered, if only they'll let me.

I was just at my dealer, and they have 6 brand new ones (1 turbo, 2 GTS, 1 4S, 2 unknown...didn't walk over to check). I am sure you'd get a deep discount on those too since at least the turbo, and 1 of the 2 GTS have been sitting there for quite sometime.

That's an interesting data point. (Assuming you can actually buy them! :p) Who is your dealership?

some thoughts completely 'left of field'...............if you got your car you would probably loose more than your deposit in the first year, thus if you let them keep the deposit and moved to another manufacturer who can supply immediately, you may not be out of pocket!!

Granted that you will also loose on another car...............

Following up on this, the dealership is unsurprisingly not willing to move on the price. He has taken the position that I should be grateful to be getting it at sticker price. Which I would be, if they could actually provide the car. Sigh. So frustrating.

It has occurred to me that because it's taken them more than 30 days to "repair" the car Porsche would currently be in violation of my state's lemon law. For those that would say "but it's not your car (yet)" I can point to this binding sales agreement and the slightly more than 10% of my cash that they're holding.

Yup. One suspects that's a big reason why Porsche doesn't tell anyone anything about why they're holding the car. I'd definitely walk away and buy something else if I could get the deposit back, which I understand is the point in making me pay it to begin with. As @Hanny mentions, I'll lose that much in deprecation (and then some) in the first year anyway so I may do it anyway. Still deciding.
