What parts of car get PPF, details, etc.? I'm still deciding.
I always (well last 3 cars :)) do the front half - it's where 90% of damage likely to come from - always run day to day risk in parking lots etc but full coverage cost hard to justify for me. I'm going with Xpel Ultimate-Plus (highly reputable shop - must include wrapped/hidden edges etc) but other very competitive options out there - TBH all are very close in respect performance/warranties/looks - its the actual application that is critical i.e. experienced installer! - but I like the thickness of Xpel (not as thick as some others) and it has worked really well in my past (lots of examples of how it protected the car from large rock chips to actual side swipe by another vehicle!!).

Whether you choose Suntek, Xpel or whatever the key is just getting it done (assuming thats for you). Got a free Xpel tint job with purchase so that can be applied at same time in same shop which is literally a mile or so from the dealership - planning for quick turn around. I would normally just swap out my side markers myself but SA offered to do it for me day of delivery, so why not :)

As I mentioned in many other posts and a couple of threads I started a while back, I will be painting the arches (and possibly more i.e. side sills/front&rear facia) but as any paint job needs to fully and completely cure before applying PPF it will get done later - if not before Xmas then fairly shorty after. The FVD lowering links will also be installed but I will break the car in first to make sure there are no nasty SW/HW surprises early on that involve trips to the dealer!

At that point will be done :)

PS: well actually I am still on fence with regard to doing a clear IR windshield PPF and possibly a sunroof application too - decision pending!

How quickly do you need to do PPF after receiving the care? I haven't decided yet if I am getting it, but want to enjoy my car for a while before sending it right back to the shop.

Also unrelated question, but what are the last minute items/warranties dealer will try to sell you at closing, and which of those should you consider getting?

My opinion possibly a bit on the extreme side here re dealership 'add-ons' - I have basically refused all of them - if I need them I can get far cheaper cover elsewhere but TBH, never had. The most likely option might be with tires/rims protection but again never actually got it and other warranties have done me well (tires) - entirely understand why others may feel differently.

As far as PPF - I like to do it immediately - literally means a day extra wait time for me on delivery - not an issue luckily but yes tougher choice re timing if the shop you use not as convenient. The day you drive on public roads however is the day you can get a great big rock chip slamming your car - OK, a bit negative :), but honestly if you're going to apply it, why not do it from day one.

PS: Part of the above decision reflects fully understanding the insurance coverage you have for your vehicle.

If you want to get a bit nutty (like me), I have TracWrap and I intend on wrapping the front end in the parking lot before driving the few hundred miles home and then I will apply the PPF.

I plan to do the same thing. so I guess that makes me nutty, too

SFL Conductor

About 200 miles to Galveston and ca. 250 to the Turning Basin berth - she slowed down considerably over last few miles to 12 knots - looks like traffic issues and/or speed regulation in lane (ships ahead of her all traveling at between 9-14 knots)- def slower progress!

But this reduced speed combined with slower rate though the bay and ship channel suggests the Port Auth. ETA estimate of arrival Dec 8th at ca. 5AM likely accurate (you'd almost think they know their own business :)).

PS: just bumped to 15 knots!

SFL Conductor - in (at least partial) terrestrial/marine AIS range

The GoM Oil platforms like Shell's Auger field provide local AIS positioning so possible that those of you w/o free or subscribed Sat coverage may well be picking up the Conductor or will do soon with std. free AIS coverage on MT and other tracking sites.

Conductor's last AIS position used the Auger platform.

Nice visibility today to see boats coming into Houston Bay but unfortunately the Conductor will pass here earliest 10 PM and prob later. This image from the Bayport Auto Terminal of a tanker a moment ago moving upstream:

Another vote for “pre delivery” PPF (front end), Tint, Paint correction + ceramic. This way everything done at delivery and all that’s left to do is drive!

SFL Conductor - Berth currently occupied!

So this interloper turned up out of nowhere (arrived a day late) and technically is sitting in our assigned berth when he should be in Berth 31! Hopefully moves off before Conductor arrives tomorrow morning - fairly sure Conductor could dock/offload immediately to the south if necessary I suppose - odd that they let a bulk carrier sit in the assigned Auto-carrier berth!

SFL Conductor update - 5pm Houston time Dec 7th.

About 60 miles out from the Bolivar channel - slow but sure - will get there around 8 PM or so tonight.
