On my previous 2021 Taycan CT4S I had the 8IU option (Ledmatrix including PDLS+). I thought it was a really great option, especially on dark B-roads where there is no other lighting; it was as if a curtain had been opened. Everything is super well lit, you can see around corners, and it doesn't blind oncoming traffic.

I am now about to purchase a J1.2 Taycan that has all the options I want, except for the 8IU HD matrix LED. I know that this option has been greatly improved in the J1.2. My question now is whether the standard J1.2 headlights are comparable to the Matrix LED from the J1.1. This is what the dealer tells me anyway. They now call the standard lights matrix as well, and if they are as good as what I had, I would be perfectly happy with it.

I should really test drive it myself at night, but my Porsche center won't let me ;)

No they are not. you’ll Notice immediately. I don’t have it anymore in Jen 1.2.
It will take 3 days to forget about your previous led matrix…
It’s all smoke in the eye… all companies want you to feel the tech pressure and spend more money…
When I drive my 1976 Volvo in the dark I am extremely happy, but without led matrix in a new car I feel not happy…
Invest the saved money in a fund and in 15 years you’ll feel better you didn’t get led matrix…

This is from the J1.2 Press kit regarding the lights that are both Matrix.
However, I am not sure how to compare "matrix functionality" of the J1.2 Matrix (non-HD 11 segment) to J1.1 Matrix LED that has 84 segment. I do know that J1.2 HD Matrix is required for swivel beam and other things that are normally PDLS+ functionality above the basic Auto High Beam.

J1.1 had LED as standard with PDLS+ as an option and low resolution Matrix with PDLS+ as standard but at extra cost.

J1.2 has Matrix with PDLS+ as standard and HD Matrix with PDLS+ at extra cost up to Turbo.

There will be little or no difference between J1.1 and J1.2.standard matrix other than the visual appearance.

There is no comparison between standard matrix and HD matrix - a step change improvement.
