I initially thought I joined the AC going out club that is covered under the WMP5 recall where there are three sensors that need to be replaced. By chance, I was getting a new tire replaced at Porsche under warranty today and the tech did a quick look, but said I needed to drop the car off as nothing obvious was not working or disconnected.

Seems strange that it worked fine and then totally stopped blowing cold air. The blower works fine and strong, it is just hot air.

Then tonight I realized that I did not get my notification on my Apple Watch (and iPhone) that my 7pm precool completed for my ride home from work. So I started messing with My Porsche and the old Connect app. Both which I use all the time to select "Climate" and pre chill the car when I am walking out of a store to the car.

I did the 2 finger salute and rebooted the PCM. Have locked the car and kept the key well away from the car for hours. So far, nothing but hot air blowing.

The apps are not able to precool the car. See the attached pictures (one from My Porsche and one from Connect).

Has anyone had this happen? I am thinking this is different than the WMP5.

This is normal when you ger the AC problem, you can’t Control the AC with your app then.

Thanks Skystorm. Thought maybe I had a different issue. Was reading that the AC does assist in keeping the battery cool and could shut the car down. Any truth to that?

To be clear, Preheat / precool doesn't relate to battery conditioning which I think may be the confusion.

This function relates to cabin temperature control only.

Battery preconditioning prior to a charging session (DC only) is something quite different and can only be achieved by using the NAV and using any DC charging location >= 50kW as your destination or stopover. Doing this triggers the battery preconditioning as necessary (targeting 32C or so on arrival).

In terms of interior climate control the fact that your battery is used to run the AC to heat or cool the interior will naturally add heat (a little) to the battery as a by product of the chemical reaction that takes place.

Thanks.

Totally understand the precool/preheat. I was thinking that with it not functioning (ie not cooling the cabin for my drive to work) and giving me an error on the app might be a different issue than the 3 AC sensors. I think its the AC problem everyone is experiencing.

In researching AC issues though, someone mentioned that the air conditioning system helped cool the battery and if it was not working and that was not happening, then the car could shut down due to excessive high temperature of the battery. Not sure that is accurate, but found no more info.

Will report back once the service tech figures it out.

"As a result, there is a possibility that the proper functioning of the air conditioning and battery cooling system is not given. This can lead to an increased temperature of the high-voltage battery and, as a result, to a reduced charging performance during the fast charging process as well as to a reduced driving performance."
