Hey everyone, new to the group, I am thinking of pulling the trigger on a '20 4S as a weekend car. My question is how reliable are they and how's the performance compared to other 3 second petrol cars?

Hi, about the reliability, my experience with the '22 GTS ST so far is good, but lemon exists, and in general even without being a lemon, typical known issues occurs like On-board 22Kw fail, heat pump fail, battery cell modules failures can happen, I would consider those as similar or less then ICE cars, I would call them reliable issues, not random issues ;).

make sure you have Porsche approved to sleep well, any occurence of the failures can cost you much more.

about performance, it depends if you talk about drag racing, any tesla m3 performance or long range can beat you as well. on a track and curvy road you win hands-down.

enjoy it and don't get stressed over the range.

You mean Porsche approved warranty? How much do they generally run?

yes the Porsche approved warranty is a MUST on those cars. I'm in europe, it cost about 1500-1700Euro per year, I think you can have some good deals buying multiple years (2-3years).

4S is a nice / safe choice with ample power to be honest and will see off most boy racers!

If all recalls (assume purchase from official dealership) have been applied then it will be a great car for the price.

I have an '20 4S and got an offer for PAW, but haven't decided yet.

My considerations:
  • The PAW doesn't cover the battery, but I have still 3 yrs left on battery guarantee (8 yrs in Norway).
  • Wears and tears is not covered.
  • The are fewer parts that goes wrong on EV's than ICE's
  • You must go through a 111 check point list, same as for ICE, even though EV's doesn't have all the parts.
  • It's seems expensive (cost/benefit)
  • The whole German car industry is failing, incl. Porsche. The outcome is uncertain.

I got the current offer:
  • 111 Check points: 4 000 kr ($359 / €343)
  • 1 yr PAW: 24 716 kr ($2 216 / €2 121)
  • 2 yrs PAW: 42 972 kr ($3 852 / €3 687)
  • 3 yrs PAW: 60 180 kr ($5 395 / €5 164)
Currently, I lead to not to purchase PAW. I would like anothers point of views, before I make a final decision.

You only need the 111 point check if the car has fallen out of warranty.

Those prices are expensive compared to the UK - here, 3yrs is £3k.

There are less mechanical parts, but what there is, is expensive if it goes wrong. Risk reward.... Warranty companies don't lose money, so on the percentages they win. But that's scant comfort if you're one of the percentages that needs a payout ?

No warranty covers wear and tear IME, which is fair enough.

And no manufacturer gives more than 8yrs battery warranty AFAIA. That's a shame, but it's quite a lengthy warranty really, especially when you consider it's *standard*. I'm hoping Porsche provide more options once they have more experience of their batteries... Though with the current ARBxx debacle (battery monitoring/warnings/recall) I suspect that might be wishful thinking.

You need to perform a 111 point check before getting the PAW (usually done late in the warranty period). When this goes through you could buy 1-3 year of PAW.
I did this when I traded in my 2020 model Turbo S to a new 2025 Turbo GT.
Porsche performed a 111 point check before the warranty was out, so the new owner will get 1 year of PAW.

In the UK you do not pay for a 111 check if the warranty hasn't already expired ? (And in the UK I don't imagine they'd do one - no point. They'd have to fix anything they found foc anyway).

Maybe you are right. I changed in my old car for a new one, so I did not pay anything.
I`ll see next time (when my new car is almost 5 years)
