My RWD is heavily spec’d (£30k of options). It has the sports design kit, Mission E wheels, etc.

When getting quotes, do you answer ‘yes’ when it asks about added options?

When getting quotes last year some insurers declined to quote based on the options ticked, even though factory fitted.

Have you experienced this and any tips for insuring a heavily spec’d car?

I have £17k of options on my RWD. I didn’t specify the extra options. I put the value of the car when new last year for the first year of insurance. Comparison sites had already calculated the value of the car for this year’s renewal, e.g. between £76k to £82k.

I've always understood modifications to mean non-manufacturer mods rather than optional extras at build. Used to hurt me back in the day when I'd change everything from exhausts to body parts...luckily those days are 20 years gone now

Speak with your insurer and whomever you talk to talk to their supervisor if you don't get the answer you want as you potentially will get 2 different responses.

I went round the houses with Admiral on this and in the end factory fit was the consistent differentiator i.e. the premium was based on the value of the car.

Personal choice but the spec feels overly optioned for a base model where resale may be a factor for you.

Agreed…

out of interest what is the config code you want to share on here and maybe you go for a 4S with less options on it.

I told Admiral it has no modifications apart from the Tracker and dash cam which should bring car down.

It worked out sorta cheaper to have two cars on the policy with them as a multi car too.

As an example, here's what I posted in the "Insurance:UK" thread (June 22)-
I've just now gone with Admiral (my current insurers LV wouldn't quote for the Taycan which I collect next week).
In a 50 minute call I walked them through every one of my £10k of cost options, they noted the ones they considered relevant, and the outcome was no noticeable change in premium (from the quote I'd got online via compare the market). So they now understand that their promise to Return To Invoice requires those cost options in addition to the standard spec, and my policy doc lists some under "Modifications".
They summarised most of the options as "Interior changes" or "Exterior Decorative Changes". Park assist + surround and Lane Change Assist got honourable mentions. They were very interested in the 150kW DC on-board booster until I clarified that it doesn't enhance the cars performance ?
I was very impressed with the lady who I dealt with- she was thorough and sought input from her colleagues to be 100% sure they had all the necessary info from me. It took even longer than I'd expected, but it was worth it for my peace of mind.
