Hi guys, I'm currently driving the new Macan EV and looking to switch it for the newest Taycan 4S.

My Macan turned out to be plagued with bugs, annoyances and some serious issues.
This car has been at the shop more than all of my previous cars COMBINED.
The latest software update fixed a lot of issues but not all and new problems arise.

I've driven a number of different loaners for a long time and this includes latest Taycans.
I'm impressed by how they drive, the new generation has improved range and battery.
Compared to newest Macans I see the PCM is kind of old/slow and you can hear the motors more.

Anything else I might be missing?

Can you tell me what can I reasonably expect from J1.2 in terms of reliability?

I see a lot of issues here just like on the sister-forum for Macan EV owners but...
it's the nature of such forums and most issues seem to be related to previous gen models.

I saw you on Macan EV forum and sorry to hear about your troubles. I considered it and drove several on multi-day drives and it was obvious it is a half baked and rushed product that I would not recommend.

Taycan is a different proposition all together. We are not perfect, but I have been an owner for 2.5 years and 25k miles with zero issues and do not mind the PCM being a little slow. J1.2 model has some significant revisions that all new owners seem to appreciate. One thing, I believe we have in common is that it is just a blast of fun to drive and I look forward to every drive.

Please give us something to look at, such as an example you are considering with options.

I was under the impression that the Macan EV was less problematic than the Taycan so I am interested to see what is said by people who have alot of experience with both vehicles.

I had a 4S CT for two years. It never let me down, a few recalls, battery pressure test, heater, front brake hoses etc. I swapped it 12 months ago for a J1.2 4S ST, a couple of issues when I first got it. The HV charger had to be replaced before I took delivery and both electric charge door modules were replaced about two months later but since then no issues. Again it has never let me down. The extra range is really useful as I do a 212 mile round trip regularly and now have plenty of charge when I get back home. Extra power and fantastic driving experience.

Switching from 1 car to another based on reliability experience is always a roll of the dice.

You could buy the most reliable car model on the planet….. and still have issues. Or the least and it be perfectly fine. It’s all about luck and probability.

We can’t tell you how reliable your next car will be. We can tell you how nice it is to drive though. I would base the decision on what car you like the most rather than perceived possible reliability.

By nature, most of the issues you hear about ANY car on a forum will be for the “older ones” just because of volume (there are more out there) and age (time makes cars break). It’s too soon to say for sure if 1.2 are more reliable, but so far they do seem to be off to a better start.

I have a 2024 CT4 with 27,000 miles on it with no issues other than the recalls which were completed by the dealer. You can’t wipe the smile off my face after driving it. Two years later and I still get positive compliments and questions wherever I‘m at. 😎

If anything, do it for the driving experience. A Macan EV has all of the dynamic flaws of an SUV, handling and comfort are shockingly bad in comparison.

And J1.2 is a mature platform. It may not carry all of the promises of Android Automotive OS, but by now, they are just that: promises.

That's right, the only difference being Taycan is an older platform and even though there are flaws and issues, most are common and known to dealers. In case of Macan dealers simply don't know how to handle problems and I'm tired of being a beta tester for them.

I care mostly about the driving experience and this is the primary factor for me, I was curious about reliability because this forum is also full of problems but most of them seem to be about previous gens.
