I am hoping you have driven one or two before you make a leap - but if not you should.

I would definitely drive a RWD base - then compare that to at least a 4S or GTS or Turbo. I had test drives in cars at Palm Springs, Riverside, Ontario, Irvine and Newport Beach when I was looking - I ended up finding that I wanted at least a 4S - a big driving difference to the RWD (which I often get as a loaner and usually am keen to get back to my own car).

I agree with the larger battery point being essential also, for me ACC and ALK are a must, I do not care about the Chrono or the HUD (search the forum for these optional features).

The exterior and interior color combo also matters a lot to me - some cars are just drab color mixes in my mind - but each to their own.

I would ask them for a battery S0H report - tho I am told dealers are reluctant (of 4 that I asked two years ago 3 gave me the SOH read out) - and any recall or warranty work already completed.

For negotiations with a dealer - there is no one answer - what mileage and history, options installed, how long have they had it, how many price reductions (you can usually search that), how much warranty will they throw in, etc. etc.

You can use this link to specify the car you are looking at closer (except the battery size) and see the range of prices - I personally would target an outcome at the bottom end or lower of anything comparable for sale nationally.

good luck - enjoy the hunt and drive some cars befor eyou fall in love ... there is plenty of low cost inventory right now......
Yes, I will definitely try driving them.

Noted on the SOH report. This is very important. I will share more once I visit the dealers. I see a good amount of CPO options over at the Riverside and Ontario. Will definitely give them a visit soon.

Good suggestion! I don't mind it being a regular Taycan or 4S as long as it has a bigger battery 93kwh. Would you say there is a big difference in getting a 2021 model vs a 2022?
I would go for a 2022 since the battery warranty is 8 years or 100K miles so that takes you to 2030 on battery warranty. The vehicle warranty is 4 years bumper to bumper and the extended warranty gives you another 4 years & I believe 100K miles as well.
Parts on the Taycan are very expensive if not a covered item so the $7800/cost to add 4 more years at an average cost of $1950/year gives me peace of mind but some will take the chance and go without the extended warranty.
I think replacing the 2 speed transmission or the rear axle/motor assemble could cost $15K to $20K.
I would buy a metal roof if I did it again because a cracked glass roof is over $10K and the Panoramic glass roof is at least $14K if you crack it. This would not be a warranty item.
If you live anywhere near road or building construction I would not get the glass roof options. If you pay $60K to $70K for the car and one stone chip costs you 1/4 of the cost of the car to get fixed.
I be would love to have the larger battery but if you charge at home @240V then the standard battery can work well as long as you aren’t planning to drive more than 100-150 miles/day in average. As long as you can charge it back to full overnight then the standard battery can work too.

Hey bud, this is very very informative.

I have a Tesla charger at home and charging at home is my preference. Not sure the free charging is what I am looking for, but good to know they do provide it.

The extended warranty is an extension of the original warranty, correct? How many years they cover?

The coffee beige caught my eyes too, haha. Good taste:like:
4 years to the original 4 years from delivery date. You can’t buy an extended warranty on the battery…

Yes, based on the feedback here, getting the extended warranty is a must.

Good to know replacing the glass roof is that much. I would rather get a metal roof.

Can my tesla charge at home be charging Taycan? I have a tesla model 3 as my daily commute and Taycan is my weekend car. Taycan is gonna be garaged for sure.

No - not without an adapter - look on the site for the links for those and their limitations - or you could change it for a tesla universal Connector that can charge both the Tesla and Taycan - I have one of these installed and it is very reliable.

I bought mine from a SoCal dealer in 2024, and had it shipped across the country. Two things to consider that won't help you pick the car, but...

1) Ask for any outstanding recalls to be completed before you take delivery (assuming they can). It delayed my delivery by a few days, and some are still outstanding because of a parts backlog, but it was good to have as much completed as possible.

2) Decide whether you want paint protection treatment (ceramic coating or paint protection film). If so, you might want to coordinate the timing to minimize the time after delivery. The dealer may have a referral (or contract with someone), or you may want to find an independent shop. There are whole threads on PPF and/or ceramic coating.

3) This may be just me, but if the dealer offers a curb rash protection plan, consider it. It was offered, and I passed. Regretting that.

Here is my take!

Opt for the MY2021 or newer, 4S or higher model and ensure it includes the following features:

Essential:
• Larger battery 93kwh
• 360° view camera (it’s a wide car)
• Rear-axle steering
• Sport chono
• 150kW DC charger
  • 20” or 21” wheels

Nice-to-have:
• Ambient lighting
• Matrix LED headlights
• Power charge ports
• Sports design kit
• Heads up

Great information. Will ask for any outstanding recalls. Will consider the curb rash protection plan.

I am not sure about the ceramic coating. Did you do one? How much was it?

ceramic coating is a must, the main job with the coating is paint correction, not the actual coating.

General advice - Don't buy the CPO cars, lease them instead.
The deals are great in SoCal and the depreciation is still terrible, let me know if you need help finding the lease deals, i did one in Porsche San Diego and it was great (was a delivery miles demo, but they also have CPO leases)

I’m in the Washington, DC area. I paid $1K for ceramic coating for the entire car, plus $4K for paint protection film across the front hood, front fender, and both side front fenders). He added detailing and swirl mark removal as part of the package. I also got the darkest (legal) tint.

The PPF helps minimize minor dings, rock impacts and scratches. I do a lot of highway driving.

The ceramic coating provides UV protection and adds a higher gloss shine.

Technically, the car is mahogany metallic. People have guessed the color to be brown, mahogany, root beer, and red wine. Sunlight changes the perception, and the ceramic coating helps it pop.

if you get the Cherry colored car, you’ll see :)
