Hi,
I’m after any recommendations of companies to supply & fit a home charger for me, I live near Windsor, UK.
Are there any particular specifications I should be asking for?
Thanks.

Andersens abd get their evse too if you don't bave one from Porsche.

What electricity supply do you have - single or triple phase? If the former then any basic evse will suffice as all will deliver 7.4kW on a dedicated 32A supply. If tripple the an evse with 11kW output would be ideal.

All programming of charging etc is controlled from My Porsche App and so no 3rd party programming from whichever evse you select as that will cause issues.

These are general guidelines but some info on your intended home electrical supply would help to refine.

Aesthetically Andersen or Simpson are probably best. Integration with solar panels, Zappi are good. Integration with Octopus Intelligent tariff - Zappi or (I think) Ohme. They all have various other features I think. Depends where you want to put it (visible or hidden), whether you dislike the plastic box with wire wrapped round appearance and what you want to integrate with. If you have solar with inverter and batteries (or plan to get) then look also at their EVSE

Ok so checkout Andersen they have a new model of EVSE for around £650 and will install for a further £300 or so. Will supply up to 22kW but in your case 7.4kW and ideal for overnight charging.

Suggest getting the tethered option (cable permanently attached).

Latest model - https://andersen-ev.com/pages/andersen-quartz

Look to switch your electrical supplier to OVO to get £0.07p at anytime of day home charging rate.

I'm assuming you didn't get an EVSE with car?

This link will get you a government approved installer
https://www.gov.uk/electric-vehicle-chargepoint-installers

Unless you have any special requirements such as solar integration, or want to exploit cheaper energy around the clock whenever it is available, rather than sticking to set overnight hours, a ‘dumb’ charger is all you need - you can rely on the My Porsche App or the same settings in the car to schedule your charging, instead of the charger’s own settings. The Porsche scheduler isn’t the most intuitive, but there’s a good official Porsche You Tube video which explains it:

The Porsche You Tube Channel Spot On’ series is helpful: The Macan video shown here just happens to first in the playlist, you might want to skip past that.

From there, Taycan Charging Profile and Timer:

And a general one about Porsche Charging Equipment:

I use the Porsche Mobile Connect Charger, as this was supplied with the car. It can be wall mounted ( the government approved installer did this and updated the power supply) but it is also easy to take with you on trips away, if needed.

If you think you may have more than one battery powered vehicle in the house at any point in future, installing a dual charger upfront may be worthwhile. If charging two cars together you need to either coordinate schedules, or the charger will balance the load across both cars, charging at half speed.

You may also want to decide on an energy supplier - Octopus or OVO seem to be the most popular, I started with Ovo a couple of years ago then switched to Octopus as their overnight rate was a bit cheaper. Your gov approved charger installer may be able to help with advice on that too.

I’d suggest not using an OVO or Octopus arranged charger installer - I tried that route first, they wanted an unnecessarily disruptive, complicated and more costly one size fits all solution. Taycan does not need a tariff specific charger, the car itself is compatible.

If you don’t have one already, for compatibility with the cheapest EV tarifs, you will need a Smart Meter. if you do intend to switch to an EV tariff and need a Smart Meter, I’d recommend getting that done before switching from your existing energy supplier. The specialist EV energy providers may have longer waiting lists for Smart Meter installation.

I don't live far from you (in High Wycombe) and had a local installer install my Zappi. He did a great job, I had a really long cable run from one side of the house to the other. He was very reasonably priced, I supplied my own Zappi. PM if you want his number.
