Hi there, I'm after some info, generally from UK owners. I'm renewing my insurance for my second year of ownership of my RWD 2024 Taycan here in England. I'm hitting all the good boxes, no claims for 12 years, no convictions, garaged car; semi rural residence, you get the idea, I'm not high risk, but several companies have refused to insure me and my wife. Is it because I've just hit 75? Any advice would be appreciated.

Age for sure is a trigger.
I have got 3 points and my Taycan insurance went from 900 to 1300…

" several companies have refused to insure me and my wife. " Wow. That is really really bad (because even willing insurers typically want to know whether you have ever been refused insurance, which you must now truthfully affirm). And refusing insurance without giving a reason - that is p*ss poor. I think your best (and possibly only) option is to try a human insurance broker. There should be a price for everything. To my knowledge, the Taycan isn't a particular theft risk.

It Wasn’t speeding… driving my trailer in 3rd lane at the incredible speed of 20mph in a massive traffic jam… police officer was in a very bad mood…

Harsh if it‘s due to age, but if nothing else has changed it could be the reason I guess. Human broker is good advise, you might also consider a specialist broker used to Porsche.

A friends father in his 80s swears by Adrian Flux for his Porsche 911 (2012 991.1), can’t see why a Taycan would scare them. Ive had good experience with Classicline Insurance for Porsches I’ve had, plus a google on Porsche specialist insurance would throw up people like Manning, Lockton, Footman James.

So, update. One of the comparison websites, go compare-confused-uswitch, whatever, I've lost track, who didn't want to insure me have now sent me an e'mail confirmation of a quote which I have excepted, for £550. No, I don't understand what's going on either. Earlier today I has a quote from Tesco of £850, which when I returned to the site within 10 minutes had increased to £950. All this with a month before renewal, as apparently that's when you get the most competitive quote; well that's what Martin Lewis says.

I don’t think this counts as being refused insurance. It is just outside the terms/conditions of a company’s policy. When I was younger with a hot hatch I asked about this. As long as you haven’t had a company cancel a policy, this doesn’t matter. I tried to add my son to my policy and no quotes came up. This is not being refused insurance

Agreed - that is one of the most ridiculous things I have read on this forum!

So @ovonrein you fill your details in on an insurers website and at the end they decide they dont insure your type or value of car and you declare that as being refused insurance moving forward?? WTAF....

Age is the defining factor. Above 75 now they are hugely more averse than 10 years ago. My 79 year old dad struggled to get sensible price for his EV. I suspect next year will be even more challenging. I am not surprised - particularly up here in the rural north the elderly making wrong direction motorway choices is a growing issue. Modern roads and cars are information overload.

Unfortunately the stats show this to be very true (see pic).

When I was a young hooligan 😁 people like me were a big problem and struggled with insurance.
At that time everyone's Gran and Grandad used to get the bus.

But now the Baby Boomers (including me) are getting on in years - but everyone has a car.

So lots of older drivers on the road and hence making eyesight tests mandatory.
interestingly older ladies (especially) are now as big a danger as young lads!

The reason I looked into this was when our next door neighbours elderly father visited and somehow managed to 'miss' their drive and crashed into my wife's car parked on our drive, saying he thought he must have misjudged it.

I confirmed to him that he definitely had misjudged it, but it was only by about 6 feet!

Morning,

It's time for me to start the teeth puling exercise that is insurance renewal.

I'm currently with admiral on a multi-car insurance policy. Are there any recent recommendations/experiences of other insurers worth trying too?

Thanks
