The last couple of times I have tried to use Ionity, I can't get the Taycan to communicate with the charging station and it fails to charge. Interestingly another Taycan driver pulled up alongside me last night and had the same problem. I called Ionity and they were useless. The other Taycan driver had to call the AA to come out.
We both pulled up to Grid Serve, my car worked right away the other Taycan driver had to have the AA connect to his car and roll back an update to get it to charge, even on Grid Serve. Is anyone having problems with Ionity, and any suggestions of a fix?

I have used Ionity in the past, with no issues.

Interesting.

I had a Macan 4S EV for the weekend and went to my Ionity hub yesterday afternoon to top it up before returning to the dealer and had 2 failed charging sessions (red ring). There was a Taycan ST and Turbo charging quite happily so either the car (only 300 miles on the clock) or the EVSE. The ST pulled off so I used that one instead and worked first time. I was logged in with my Porsche ID in the car and so not sure whether P&C was initially part of the issue (even though I was using my Taycan RFID card) as I've not had this work successfully in the 2 times I've tried in 4.5 years - may not be related at all.

I always scan the barcode from the Porsche app when I use Ionity, and up until now, that had worked really smoothly. I think I did see a comment recently where someone fixed this issue by using the Ionity app once, and that seemed to reset the issue. I'll definitely give that a go.

I find the card to be the quickest to initiate the charge - no faffing with an app - but P&C should also be fine but from others I hear that it can be slower to initiate (but that could be due to a plethora of other reasons).

There has also been some chatter that if the CCS plug isn't 100% aligned / connected then it can lead to a comms glitch which will then trigger the red circle. Seems to be an Ionity thing.

Hi @steveschooky
Could you please expand on the 'roll back an update' ? Do you mean rollback the software version? How?
Thx.

Is it really faster than just plugging the cable, with Plug & Charge enabled?
The card method is faster on average... (as the card method always works, while the app/ P&C may or may not work each time)... so over multiple uses - the card method is indeed faster.

In my experience yes but I rarely use Ionity (< 6 times in 4.5 years / 2 Taycans) and each time there has been an issue. I guess if the network is busy then P&C requests will take time to process whereas a valid Taycan RFID card lookup might just beat it to the post. PAYG is probably quicker still.

I think you'd need to do a lot of tests to see what in reality is 'quicker'.

P&C is a great idea but poor take up across the various brands and operators makes it an oddity.

When public charging I just want it to work first time every time and Ionity (for me) has been a little lacklustre in that regard.

@Porsche-Guru this happened to the Taycan next door. I was a bystander in the conversation but the chap from the AA said he had to "roll back" and update and this seemed to allow the taycan to charge at the Gridserve charger. He had a tablet device plugged into the Taycan. The other driver had tried several different chargers on route and then had to call AA as he had 12 miles left by the time he got to Peterborough services.

Thanks for the clarification....

Yes, judging at least from the mules i've got until now, just using the app / card is faster than plug & charge, at least 30-50sec difference, or maybe all the mules i had were shit at negociating certificates for plug and charge, but all took over 1 minute.

Had my first Porsche delivered yesterday Taycan 4S MY26 should be a nice experience. However I have spent around 2 hours over yesterday and today at my local fortunately, Ionity and it fails to charge everytime tried all 6 points. Drove to a Gridserve and it charged without an issue first time for an unbelievable 85p/Kilowatt. Waved goodbye to my i4 M50 which didnt let me down in 3 and a half years at Ionity or on the road, what have I gone and done!

Does anybody on here use the Porsche Centres to frequently charge? Is the seamless? I need some confidence in the car as I often rquire to public charge.

Are you (trying) using Plug & Charge or are you using the Porsche app or Physical card to authenticate?

Tried Porsche App and also Porsche Card. Not sure if I understand what Plug and Charge actually is at this point in time aside from the phrase. How is it linked to your My Porsche account?

My process was

1 - Plug into car
2 - Auth with Porsche card

Then the central display was displaying a grey battery and saying pre-conditioning for approx 3 mins then a red fail.

Same sequence of events when I use the app and scanning QR code at Ionity.

Porsche will charge you to charge. It won't be seamless if you have plug and charge issues initially.

Use Ionity for the cheapest rate.

Plug and charge must be enabled in the PCM and relies on a digital.certificate to be exchanged between the car and the Ionity EVSE- can take a couple of attempts particularly with a brand new car.

The other methods should just work if you have an active Porsche charging account.

Nobody said public EV charging is cheap...that's the preserve of home charging.
