@Nickj

Did you wrap the roof in the end? Any feedback on how it looked please.
No, had the car since mid December but pretty much been in lock down since then so I’ve presumed all the car wraps places are closed so will need to wait a bit longer until they open up again. Definitely on the agenda still with wing mirror wrap ( carbon or black) and maybe trying to get some of the plastics wrapped on the front.

IMHO the aluminum roof looks better, is lighter weight, and even though the pano roof is tinted and provides some insulation from heat having the sun shining through is annoying to me. Also it's no cost. Rear seat headroom and roof transport aren't concerns so I went metal. Just personal preference.

Hey all, bumping up and old thread. Curious what the real weight is on the Aluminum roof.

I say this because on its platform-mate, the RS e-tron GT as 2 roof options, a CF which weighs 10.2kg, and the pano roof weighs 22.5kg.

The difference between both roofs are 12.3kg.

I've 'read' that Audi was against the Aluminum roof due to it being heavier.

But reading on here (and a few other threads), the Pano on the Taycan is 25-27kg heavier than the Aluminum version, but I could not find technical documentation like I did with Audi.

Is there anything from Porsche that states the weight of each roof?

Btw, the pano roof has a 6 layer structure top-to-bottom:
Clear glass
Printed sieve pattern
PVB sheet
Film to protect infared rays
Acoustic PVB sheet
Tinted glass w/ low e-coating

The density of Ally is only about 10% more than glass and whilst I don't know how thick the ally sheet they use is it is likely to be much thinner than the glass maybe half the thickness or less.

There will be a bigger difference on the estate cars than the saloon I have a CT estate car.

I am fairly shocked if the Audi carbon roof weighs 10.2 kg  that seems a lot to me but my experience is carbon fibre in Formula 1 car chassis not budget sensitive road cars...

FWIW I chose the metal roof because it looks so much better but I knew there would be a weight saving just not how much..

The breakdown of the CF weight is as follows:

The outer CF skin itself is 4.2kg.
Inner support structure is 6kg.

Strangely, Audi doesn't break it down on the Panoroof, but that may be because its the entire panel is considered the structure and it's simply glued on with adhesive.

I'm not 100% a fan of my J1 pano, but they fixed my complaints on the J2 with the frosted shade availability. I do like that it's easy to maintain and essentially swirl-free.

I just much prefer the look of the sculpted metal, and I don't like any of the glass roofs on cars I have had and on the Taycan it only benefits passengers and even they don't need it if you don't get drug-dealer windows.
