forged is a VERY loose term in marketing. For example, these could be rotary forged, or flow forged - which makes them a cast wheel with some machining. These are cast for sure - you can even see some of the casting defects in the wheels if you inspect them.

At best they may cast the rough shape and then forge (machine) them to their final state. They are too heavy to be truly forged from a single block of aluminum

I wonder why more people don't get the 21" Taycan Exclusive Design wheels? That's what I chose, both because I didn't want to be forced to pay for the super expensive PCCB upcharge, and I was inspired by the car show unveiling in my temp profile pic here. Admittedly, I didn't even know about the significance of the "Mission E" design when I first set my sights on a Taycan.

I don't know how these wheels would look on white, but they also can be optioned with the body color paint too (in various combos). I got mine in high gloss black with the stock red calipers. It's supposed to start production today, and I'm very excited!
Congrats on your production startup! what's the quoted timeframe?
It's OK if other 21" wheels are spec'd, we don't all want to be indistinguishable!
Looks like you went w frozen berry? Recently saw this video of one with Excl wheels (plat painted) and it looked very sharp too - never mind the misspelled title

Thank you!! And I love the video! I wish I could understand more, but I did catch "Taycan" "Amazing" And "Is this not the most beautiful incredible car you've ever seen!?@?" Ok, maybe not the last one, but that's what I kept hearing over and over in my head :D.
But yep, that's my car, same interior, just no sport chrono and the black on the wheels. I don't usually spec much black on a car if I can avoid it, but somehow black accents are perfect on nearly every Taycan for some reason.

Delivery is slated for March 17, and has been holding steady and confirmed recently with SA, but I don't want to keep my hopes up and my garage is nowhere near ready anyway! I'll see if tomorrow morning TYD has an update or a pushed back date, because the first few steps got pushed back a week a few times (with delivery unchanged).

Totally agree with the exclusive wheels painted black look great esp. against lighter color exteriors (mine are painted gloss metallic black)
- by garage "nowhere near ready" do you mean installing the 220v outlet? (make sure you get the Hubbell receptacle upgrade)

Forged is used appallingly loosely these days in some areas.

I have seen carbon fibre pieces referred to as forged ? And one link referred to “flow forged” which I presume is a lie, really meaning diecast.

Anyway, it would surprise me if Porsche use the word “forged” wrongly and I have never, ever, heard machining referred to as forging in my 40 year engineering career!

Forging doesn’t necessarily make a part light though, the main gain is from the strength and resilience created by the grain flow as the red hot metal is hammered by the forging dies.

They will certainly have to be finished off by machining, the forging process isn’t accurate enough to complete the wheel rim, hub spigot or fixing holes.

I just did an internet search on forged wheels.
No wonder there are so many confused people!

I have a book called “the death of expertise” and seeing how any muppet with a YouTube channel can broadcast freely whether they have any idea what they are on about or not is why, I suppose.

Sad that the internet is so chock full of complete bollox, on the basis of “free speech” and crime because there are no enforceable laws or police.

Disappointing really. It could be a place for research and discovery but if you don’t know quite a bit already it is impossible to separate fact from idiots confidently spouting rubbish :(

Yeah, haven't scheduled the electrician yet, and we're using this as a good excuse to clean a lot of junk/old toys/inherited knicknacks, etc. out of there, plus a general cleanup and reorganization. Just waiting for the temperature to stay above freezing which it's starting to do :). I'm pretty sure I have a couple solid electrician recommendations, and I have a bunch more threads to read here on the other stuff I need, so your suggestion is noted, thank you! I'm excited, but still don't want to jinx it!

ETA: Dates changed :(. Everything pushed a week back, delivery 3/24 now. Happens to be the day before our 20th wedding anniversary, so he's hoping it gets him out of a present hahah.

Love that frozen berry/blackberry colour combination.
I agree, when he opened the door I had to rewind and watch it again. And then try to imagine my Paldao wood trim in there. I love it so much. In the showroom, when I brought my husband for a test drive (after having already put down my deposit) I showed him the color sample piece, and my SA placed it on top of the blackberry leather pillow thing... he was like, "Wow, okay I'd drive this."

I watched that video twice more with my kids around, and suddenly they were a lot more excited about the car. I don't know why none of my kids ever had the "car bug" as both their parents have since childhood, but they just might soon...

Agree that your wheels look great. While I applaud Porsche for putting out a Mission E wheel that is inspired by the prototype vehicle, there are so many equivalent (if not better) options out there. No need to get hung up on Mission E wheels IMHO. In 2019/2020 they seemed like the best wheel to spec.…I dont think that is the case anymore.

Here is another video of your car in the flesh!

Thank you everyone for your perspectives ? - this is a great forum. The exclusive design wheels painted black look really good and I will likely go that way if the mission Es are off the table.

Dealer (factory owned) now advises PSCB with calipers in white also unavailable due to stock shortage. I've passed on this allocation (March) and will see what happens with the next one!
