Got my GTS and wanted to try something different on this car since I didn't want a clip on the racetex.

Similar to the Nine Volt solution, except wanted it to look OEM. I lose a cupholder but never used it anyways.

Modeled a base that slides into the cupholder, then glued a magsafe charger into a cover piece that was wrapped in a matching piece of Racetex. In a future iteration I'll make this a snap in piece instead of glued like it is now, my Racetex wrapping skills suck too.

Overall happy with it, looks OEM, almost like a palm rest, but then just rest my phone on it without it sliding around everywhere. While still retaining the OEM glow ring.

Attached are pics of it, what it looks like before I wrapped it, and a closeup of the glow ring (excuse the bad Racetex wrap job).

Struggled to find a perfect way to mount my iPhone so decided to custom print my own magnetic holder.

Designed it to match the shape of the center console side, but not too tight in order to avoid marking the leather. Then screwed on the top a magnet from a previous phone holder I had.

Perfect for my needs and been using it for a month without any impact on the leather, and phone holds even in Launch control !

Let me know what you think and would be great to get any additional suggestions. Happy to also share the 3D print file if anyone is interested.

Great solution. Are you making them for interested parties? I don’t own a 3d printer.

Here are a couple of renders of the (more or less) final version of the centerconsole mount that I sent to Shapeways to print in (black) SLS. I'll post some actual pictures when it arrives here.
Made it a little wider to I could add some padding on the inside.
You can navigate the model here : https://p3d.in/f5tWN

Hello, I sent your pictures to Shapeways and they cannot fabricate the same mount
from your pictures and link to “navigate the model”. Would you be willing to share the
actual drawings that Shapeways needed to print your refined design?

@jeanmariecannie has gone AWOL. I tried messaging him but no reply.

Seems he only came to the forum to show us what he made in this thread and then left. Would have been great if he shared the STL file.

No worries, I hired the company that works with Shapeways, they have a design I commissioned in their hands now. They will review and suggest refinements, if any, and I’ll get the designer to adjust the design. I will share with others once I get thru this process.

Nice! How is it different from the one that Axdenied posted? I was going to go with that one since I couldn't get jeanmariecannie's design (I actually tried to see if I can somehow rip his design from p3d, the site he uploaded the model to, but wasn't able to make that happen).

I did like the more refined shape of the latter, including the Porsche logo. No offense Axdenied!

I went with porsche logo on side and a cylinder on top to mount magnet to.

Oh that does look awesome! How tall is the cylinder on top?

If you will be so generous as to share with the community, I'll definitely wait for yours, but man, hurry up... I'm tired of putting my phone on the seat or in the cupholder ?

This will be reviewed for any problem areas such as material thickness. Might have to be slightly adjusted to accommodate the logo and it’s impact on thickness.

Also, is the top of the cylinder going to be angled or flat? I'm wondering if it'll be possible to mount it on either side. If it is angled, then that means it's good for one side only.

I believe it has slight angle. It’s hard to tell because the spot where it will go in the car isn’t exactly at right angles and the drawing I commissioned is in a format that I have trouble manipulating and viewing. I’m an Architect and working with a 3d print file for a car part is like another language for me.

Well, at least you're an architect! I can't even fathom opening a STL file.

Thanks for the work you're putting in.

If someone is interested in this one made out of aluminium and anodized in any colour you want, I can make it (when I have the STP file) on my CNC machine.
I’m interested but the question will be: any scratches in the leather due to aluminum?
