Expensive looking (even if not actually expensive) cars can definitely drive up estimates, since a lot of estimates are about "how much is the work worth to the client" or "what is the most the customer is willing to pay for this". I've seen this on so many occasions, a good example was a kitchen counter quote which a woman comes, takes a look at the house, then writes up an estimate for about twice the square footage of quartz counters. :CWL: When I questioned her where she got the number, she could not actually tell me even how she measured or calculated the square footage (even though she did take measurements of the kitchen, I think that was just for show). The estimate was clearly based purely on "how much can I take this guy for". Ended up getting it done for less than half of of that price through a contractor who knew how to measure and who quoted me the price per square foot over the phone.

That is why I often park our fancier cars down the street and park kids' cars in the driveway on occasions when getting estimates. One time when I had a fence quoted, I just kept the garage closed, but after my wife opened the garage to take out some garbage, the guy saw two Teslas and increased the estimate by 20% on the spot, telling me he made a mistake on quote he just gave me 2 minutes earlier. Unfortunately for him, he just increased the number of linear feet of fence to be built, rather than per foot price. I saw that and agreed. When the job was done, I measured the completed fence with him, which showed that his original estimate was right on as far a linear feet, so he had to adjust the invoice back down. He was not very happy about it.
You are dead on. I keep the 911 in the garage with the cover on so they cannot tell what the car is and I have a bag over the Porsche crest that is printed on the car cover. I try and park down the street too if they are coming to the house, but sometimes that can be hard to do if they beat me to the house! My son is house hunting and we took my wife's Avalanche so they would not see the Taycan or even is '12 BMW 135 to not hinder our negotiation. Heck, I take my Rolex off many times when getting bids on stuff.

It is crazy that we have to take these kind of actions.

I got one or two comments about how I'm able to afford it from my colleagues, and the true answer is what I said to them - "no kids"
I'm going to use that!

(I do have two kids so I expect weird looks)

I've had my car for a month and haven't had anything negative yet, but a lot of attention. I live in a college town in the south, so I wasn't sure what reaction I would get. Lots of thumbs up, stares, and cameras taking pics.

Yesterday, I had to drive through a school parking lot at the same time several 13 year old boys were getting off of a bus. They stopped, got their phones out to record, and were saying things like, "Whoa! Cool car! REV IT!" I started laughing, and had to roll down the window to let them know I couldn't rev it since it was an electric car. They all looked incredibly confused, and a couple even stopped filming. Then one repeated, "Cool car!"

Funny. a century ago kids were considered assets, the more you had the better off you were.
