Afternoon. I received (along with many others I’m sure) notification that there is free electricity between 13 & 14 tomorrow.
Are we able to charge our cars for free or does the Octopus Intelligent detect the vehicle and charge at the normal rate?

It's only free for what you use over your normal usage and yes free for cars too.

set a bump charge for the hour to get 7Kw (or whatever your charger can deliver). We have our other car on Intelligent, so I set a geo-profile for the cheap hours when I plug in the Taycan at home.

Last time we had one of the 'free electricity' hours, I ran the dishwasher, tumble dryer, washing machine on. Charged up the ride-on mower and got an hour's worth into the car. Octopus said I used 1250% more energy than normal :). Simple things

Yup. It will be free, even if IO schedules you 7p rate for charging.

As others have said, they look at your average use for that time (don’t know over what period), and you only get free for use above that.

I have a Tesla Powerwall so my average use is always zero during the day, so I rinse:
7kw->Taycan
5kw->PowerWall
3kw->Hot water emersion heater
And as many other things I can run - although my main breaker gets pretty warm - even my main grid incoming cable warms up!

Good job sir!

Next time, you could also run an extension lead onto the footpath in front of your house and put a post up on the neighbourhood WhatsApp asking all the neighbours to plug their kettles in.

?

And along those lines, next time you fly and your suitcase is under weight, go out and fill it with rocks ?

Am I right thinking you can’t use this on the intelligent EV go tarif?
