Took some more photos after a wash and in sunlight. Can't really tell the wheels are white bc Ice Grey shines like a metallic white in sunlight. Suspension on lowest setting

(Disregard that obnoxiously disgusting wrap on that Tesla)

Mission E's are great on the Sport Turismo. Did you notice at all any change in consumption compared to your previous wheels?

No testing yet. My next trip is early June, so I'm curious. The better test would be that I drive a trip that I normally drive (for me it's SF to Tahoe and back).

I am aware the Mission E is not as efficient as the aero designed wheels, specifically the 20-in variants. My original 21s for the exclusive designs, which is pretty aerodynamic because it's effectively fan blades

Your wheels do look brighter than the white on your car but I don’t know if that’s because of how the picture was taken.

It is directly related to the fact that it is painted white. Ice Grey is off white, even in bright sunshine, Ice Grey is less white.

My initial math on my driving behavior: a 0.1-0.2 miles/kwh difference. On the GTS it's 8 to 16 mile range penalty, or 3%-6%

There's a recent review from a Taycan social media owner.

Summary: original Mission E wheels are not considered aerodynamically efficient compared to other options available for the Porsche Taycan (13:37-14:06).

Key takeaways regarding their efficiency:

  • Increased Turbulence: The design of the original Mission E wheels creates significant turbulence as they spin, which acts against the rolling motion of the car (13:49-14:04).
  • Range Impact: Using more aerodynamic "Aero blade" style wheels can improve your highway range by up to 10% compared to the original Mission E design (13:39-13:47).
  • Design Priorities: The creator notes that while the original Mission E wheels are favored for their aesthetics—providing an open look that showcases the car's rotors and calipers—this look comes at the expense of aerodynamics (1:06-1:26, 14:49-14:54).
  • Modern Revisions: Newer versions of the Mission E wheels sold on recent Taycan models now include an aero rim to help improve efficiency, though the creator notes they do not look as visually appealing as the original design (14:59-15:13).
The most efficient 21-inch wheel options are those specifically engineered with aerodynamic profiles to reduce drag. While 19-inch wheels are generally more efficient overall, the following 21-inch wheels provide the best balance for those who want to maintain the look of larger wheels without sacrificing excessive range:

  • 21-Inch Exclusive Design w/ Carbon Fiber Aeroblades: These are widely considered the most efficient in the 21-inch category. The lightweight carbon fiber blades seal the face of the wheel, significantly reducing air turbulence compared to open-spoke designs.
  • 21-Inch Aero Design Wheels: These wheels feature a flatter, 5-spoke design optimized for efficiency. They are engineered specifically to cut down on drag during highway and city driving compared to standard performance wheels like the RS Spyder.
Key factors that improve efficiency:

  • Aeroblades: Blades help smooth the airflow around the wheel, preventing the air from getting trapped and creating resistance.
  • Reduced Weight: Forged wheels (like the Exclusive Design set) reduce unsprung weight, which improves both efficiency and acceleration.
  • Tire Choice: Some 21-inch aero packages use narrower front tires to minimize rolling resistance and maximize range.

Thanks @Flying ace for great input. Interesting to see your own calculations for the "penalty" of running Mission E wheels.

I would expect the turbulence effect to be quite speed dependant. Would be interested to hear about your results after some more driving/longer trips.

Yeah, my measure is a non scientific urban highway drive (about 1 hr round trip). I will take it on a short road trip this week (no charge required).
