Forget the console stick. In an electric car it's an unnecessary anachronism anyway.

But I'm curious:

2. Do you think the orientation of the "gearshift" display should be different in the Taycan than in every other Porsche? In fact, can you give an example of any make of car where the instrument cluster display has the D above the R?

Frankly, the shifters for all cars are electronic and not manual levers anymore. They could put them wherever they want.

Center console buttons would have been brilliant.

Yes, BMWs have changed this and D is forward (shift is right below the steering wheel). The same goes for VW ID3 and ID4. We can say that all German cars put D forward and German cars usually go together. Tesla is the only one with R forward, afaik, but we know the Americans have a different history for their "sticks", so I guess they will adapt easier. For me it's a no brainer. If you moved P out of the combination, then why not put D in front? At least Hyundai has a lateral D and R, but they place theirs between the seats.

Yes. I've accidentally brake-checked people at toll plazas when my brain misinterprets "leftmost pedal" as "clutch pedal."

Funny you mention the carpets... my rear ones were reversed by the dealer on delivery. Or so I think. Doesn't the straight edge face the seats?
