After I programmed the diamond button on the steering wheel, all I need to do is push the diamond button and the garage door will open or close....just like the buttons on the rear view mirror on other cars. No need to go through screens
Thank you. What procedure did you employ?

Still can’t wrap my head around this lack of built-in homelink buttons. I haven’t owned a car made in the last 30 years that didn’t have that built-in. Asinine. Anyone found a decent 3rd party homelink remote that blends in well with the interior?

Honestly i think the post about the backup camera is a good lead. Is it only not working while the camera is on? Obv putting it into park kills the camera.

I use homelink a lot in other cars and my Taycan so I thought I'd chime in. I found the on-screen homelink to not work as well and it's also annoying when it pops up sometimes. It will even pop up when the reverse camera is on and override the reverse camera. It also seemed like I needed to hold down the on screen button for a few seconds for it to work right.

I programmed the diamond button next to the instrument cluster and removed the geolocation and it seems to work much better. All i have to do is tap the button and the door opens or closes and there is no drilling down in menus or trying to override the reverse camera or anything else.

I can't say I have had OP's original issue with either solution where I couldn't use the button in Reverse. It has always worked no matter what "gear" I'm in.

I have two cars with the built-in button on the mirror and both of them will work without the key. I don't like this because I park them in my driveway a lot and if someone gets into the car then they can open the garage door. The Taycan's setup where the car has to be on in order to open the garage door seems a lot more secure.

This is a non-issue as the geotagging works so well it automatically brings up the homelink buttons when you approach your garage. It works so well I have removed homelink from my shortcut. I much prefer this option than having 3 buttons somewhere.

Even if you dont have geotagging set up, the homelink page is one button away on the PCM. Really not a big deal.

Does it also work when you back out of the garage? Eg when the backup camera is on while in motion? Thanks

Hello! I have a nuance question about the operation of the programmable diamond button. I have programmed the button on the dash to operate my garage. When I back out of the garage, I cannot close the garage door until I put the car in park.
When retuning home, I can push the diamond button and then touch the screen to open the garage door while still in forward. My dealer is clueless about this. It would take an owner to help.
Thank you
My problem is that the home link box appears on the screen every time i press the button and I have to X out of it. My question would be is how do i stop the pop up homelink box from appearing

Try using the one on the dash behind the steering wheel - either one should work also programming the button the HomeLink should kick in on the screen

interesting about programming the diamond to be the OPEN/CLOSE - mine is programmed for the HOMELINK screen - but i have 3 doors (and randomly park in one of the three - hey, house full of females - go figure) so i actually NEED my screen (to choose the correct door) versus the open/close activity. if i had a spot i used every time i think i'd just do that versus going to the screen then hitting the screen to choose the door

BUT YOU CAN CLOSE THE PARKING SCREEN when you're in reverse - click the "X" on it - and you can see the homelink screen. trouble is - for some reason, if you're done with garage and still in reverse and want the screen. my OTHER diamond button is for the surround view - so it's quick for me.

so to answer the original question - YES, YOU CAN FORCE CLOSE THE SURROUND VIEW SCREEN to (re-)see the homelink screen

Alan. B I have the same challenge. I "programmed" the diamond button and it activates the Homelink screen, it does not open the garage door. Further challenge is that the camera is the dominant view on that screen so if i want to open the garage door I also have to cloe the camera screen to reveal the Homelink screen. Waste of time...I still have the old fashioned remote control in the car pending another option.

I understand that the geolink is an option but I have a dog issue and don't want the door to automatically open.

Dumb comment but: have you tried pressing it once and fast, and not holding the button for a few seconds?
