Hi ladies & gents

I’m currently on the hunt for my first EV, a Taycan 4S CT. Only able to afford an approved used car mind you, but excited nonetheless.

So far I have narrowed down colours and spec choices, and I’m finding my local dealer is happy to help look on the approved used site but seems to have limited options for acquiring a car otherwise.

Whilst I’m waiting I thought I’d ask here if anyone has had any particularly positive dealer experiences in the approved used world and if there are any potential spec options which I may have missed, oh and does anyone have any suggestions for dealers I should actively avoid?

Spec wise my essentials are:
Ambient lighting
Folding / anti dazzle mirrors
BOSE
Privacy glass
Pan roof
4+1 Seats
14/18 way seats
Black valance / surrounds
150kw booster
Roof rails in black

I did have the sport chrono on the list but that’s now moved to desirable

looking forward to joining the club ASAP.

The hunt is part of the thrill.
I got my first Taycan (4S) in June 2000 and upgraded to a Taycan Turbo S CT last year.
Best cars I've ever owned and I've owned a lot.
Your desirable spec looks good.
I've had amazing service from Porsche Hull.
Specific colour & wheel choice is also important for most people.
I've never had the 150kw booster.
Good luck.

Colour wise I’m looking for black interior and no silver trim on the outside. Seems to be very few and far between! Lots of red interiors for some reason…

As for the main colour, Jet Black, Volcano Grey or Crayon are all viable

My first one was Gentian Blue & second Volcano Grey. Pictures from my "swop" day last November 25.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search.
I'm possibly misunderstanding your statement about dealer's limited options, I wouldn't expect a dealer to want to risk bringing back a Taycan that has left the Porsche sales ecosystem, and I would advise against looking for one that doesn't have full Porsche provenance and warranty.

Search this forum for "options" and you will find a million conflicting opinions and a lot of helpful insight.

Personally I think that is a decent basic spec. You probably want the 360 degree parking camera (the basic one is just weird and the car is wide). You only need the 150kW booster if you are going to charge at 400V sites, which in the UK are mainly only the Tesla superchargers. There are more and more 800V/150kW sites opening, and depending on your travel pattern you might never use Tesla chargers.

Sport Chrono is regarded by many as "mandatory" (it's a Porsche thing) and it is usually specced to help with resale. It gives you a stupid clock that you can hardly read (and there are a couple of other clocks on the display anyway) but also a very useful knob to switch into Sport Mode.

As others have said, get one with full Porsche warranty, from a real Official Porsche Centre ("OPC"). If you find an OPC you like, some of them can sometimes even pull cars from the used inventory of others far away. I have bought two cars from Oli at Porsche Tewkesbury even though it's a long way from me and he has been excellent, particularly around experienced opinions on the spec of possible options.

IME OPC trade in offers are derisory (based on vehicles bought from new with FPSH). The only exception is if you’re trading in for something they want rid off or your car is rare/desirable (which is unlikely to be the case with a Taycan). In short you won’t be losing much if OPCs don’t want it when you come to sell, WBAC/Motorway/etc are probably going to pay more anyway.

Main issue buying used is if the cars out of warranty you have to pay for an inspection to apply the Porsche aftermarket warranty and you have to wait 3 months before you can do this. Although I’m not sure if you can have the inspection done straight away? (I’m looking at 3y/o Taycans now, which is new territory for me given I usually buy new).

The danger is you’re left out of pocket for the inspection. Or worse still there are issues identified with the car and then you have to deal with the Indi you bought it from.

Personally there would have to be a decent saving to buy outside OPC unless the car had warranty left. Or you have some confidence in the Indi dealer.

Thats my 2 cents anyway.

Since I’m in Dallas, I can’t help with the dealer questions! But welcome to the site and good luck. As a new owner, I can’t stop thinking what beautiful cars these are.

Air suspension (not sure if standard on CT

Performance Battery Plus (extra range) I think is standard but check as you'll need it.

Surround view cameras - essential IMHO (skip the 3D nonsense).

Leather interior - just the extended and not the full option.

Power Steering Plus.

Matrix LED headlights.

Rear cycle carrier mounts.

Rear Axle steering - desirable as is Porsche Torque vectoring and Porsches Dynamic chassis control.

Wheels - choice will impact range 21" Spyders are the nicest but worst for range.

Volcano Grey - my 4S was that colour with two tone crayon and black interior. Great combo.

Jet black metallic with same interior is also a good bet - I went full hearse mode with my GTS ST including the Sypders in black.

Not a fan of crayon, frozen blue / berry, mamba or carmine red.

Porsche Glasgow and Aberdeen are both very good in my long experience.

Happy hunting!

Thank you all for the replies

Surround View is on my list as desirable, most seem to have it based on what I've seen - I have read the standard reverse camera is crap resolution (And saw this first hand in the J1.2 demonstrator I drove)
Wheels I'm really not fussy on as I typically run two sets anyway - 1 for winter and 1 for summer, and buying another set for a couple of grand is fairly straightforward at any convenient time.

Perf battery standard on the CT in the UK at least, thankfully
Air suspension also standard on the CT in the UK. The ride quality (coming from an M car) was very very good on the demo

I will only be buying from a main dealer, not entertaining private sales or other non-Porsche dealers as that seems a recipe for total disaster! My local dealer has only just hired a buyer for used cars seemingly. They do reckon they stand a good chance of buying from another dealer if necessary.

Bike rack I'll just never use, but roof bars are key just incase a roof box needed
Rear Axle steering is a nice plus but really not essential for me

I'll be sure to post pics when I finally manage to get one reserved. Saw a customer car when at my local dealer recently (Reg ending DYP - Volcano Grey CT) which visually is exactly what we are after.

Just a matter of patience

Hope to welcome you soon. I think your essentials are pretty much spot on. I wouldn't have got a car without those.

Personally I would add an alloy option too, I got lucky with my used buy, it came with 21" Spyders... But iMHO it looked a bit meh with standard aeros.

Dealer wise I got mine from HR Owen. Very reputable, I did however get them to cancel their warranty as the car is still under Porsche's factory warranty (2023YM). Didn't want to pay for that.
When that runs out I will grab the 3 year extension for £3k.

Easily best car I've owned and really nice on UK roads. Just remember to take it out of sport mode whenever speed jumps are around (the chrono pack with dial is easiest for this)

I would recommend sitting in both the 14-way and the 18-way seats first before purchasing to see which you prefer. Some people prefer the 14-way to the 18-way for example. Seats choice is very important from my perspective!

Good luck on your search. Just set a search on the official Porsche website and contact your local dealerships with your ideal car

Personally I’d drop the 150kW booster for the surround view & sport chrono. I got my Taycan just a few weeks ago and glad it has got it.
