Punctured bottom of Taycan

I was trying to park and accidentally hit a metal piece sticking up from the ground, which scraped the bottom of my Taycan.

I used a jack to lift the car slightly and removed the metal piece. After inspecting the area, I noticed that the fiberglass/plastic underbody panel had a puncture in it (photo below).

There are no warning lights, no errors, and the car drives completely fine. But I’m starting to panic a little now that I’ve had time to think about it.

I’m planning to take it to the Porsche Center to have it inspected.

I know it’s hard to assess from just a photo, but based on your experience — does it look like it could have reached or dented the battery casing?

Well; based on the 1 report of the same on the forum; it’s either a 75k bill or the car getting totaled by the insurance company.

So I would take all your personal belongings before brining it to a dealer, as you may not get it back ? or not soon in any case

Was it the exact same puncture or bigger? And did they get warning lights after?

I checked behind that puncture and it was hollow

it was a 3mm deep dent. no warning lights, car was functioning nomal

So yours seems worse actually

below that plate are the cooling lines of the battery and the battery module enclosure. Any sort of dent or damage to a battery module can result in a damaged battery cell and thermal runaway. So definitely do bring it to a porsche dealer/service

This area is covering suspension parts and not battery. So should be only a 20K repair (JK). I doubt there is any significant damage unless you heard/felt something in the rear drivetrain

I found the post you might be referencing, and it showed that the user dented the metal casing protecting the battery, not the thin fiberglass/plastic covering under the car.

mine has punctured the plastic only

When you said fiberglass I assumed it’s a j1.2 as the protection plate on that is all fiberglass (sadly on phone forum interface cars owned under user name are not visible)

if it’s not, then you might be good and no need to worry

it was towards the front of the car so I also assumed the same but got a little nervous

I just googled the location of the battery on the Taycan, and thankfully *crossing my fingers* it should be fine

the red poorly drawn circle is where the puncture happened on the outer protective fiberglass layer (which I think explains that when I put my finger in the puncture it was just hollow space behind it. It happened under the frunk.

Great diagram. Yes, the question is whether this puncture in the splash guard or the battery cover? I.e., Forward or behind the most rearward part of the front wheels? Behind = battery area. Forward = you're most likely fine if it didn't hit anything behind the panel. The dealer will be happy to charge you to remove the panel to inspect and will likely want to sell you a new panel. If you don't go that way, you will want to seal the hole or replace the panel to prevent water from collecting in there. Damn those parking blocks with rebar anchors.

just went to check my car again after your comment (behind or in front of front wheels).

The puncture is in the splash guard located at the very front of the car, right under the front-most edge of the frunk, well ahead of the front wheels. I looked under the car again and noticed:

• There’s a fiberglass-like panel at the front (which is where the puncture happened), and it was hollow underneath — no aluminum, no coolant lines, no structural elements.
• A metal plate seems to start behind the front wheels, further back — which I’m assuming is where the aluminum battery tray begins

So this confirms the puncture happened in the splash guard/aero panel area, nowhere near the high-voltage battery casing or cooling components.

No warning lights, no performance issues, and everything is functioning perfectly — but I’ll still take it to Porsche for peace of mind and to ask about sealing or replacing the panel.

Appreciate everyone’s input — definitely helps calm the nerves when you see “$72K” flying around

If it is really up front, the front "spoiler" is around $US 400 and does requires some labor to replace. If it is the valence panel or under cover splash guard those are $100 and $300 respectively. I am guessing, but the "under cover" probably is the easiest to replace. Your poor car will be fine.

looks like it’s the front under tray that covers front axle. Probably 300-500usd + labour. Let us know what the dealer says.
