Hey, you posted about how your got stuck, when you actually managed to get home without assistance, and complained about the whole affair. So I'm not sure of what your were saying. Don't trust the range estimate when your are right on the ragged edge? Don't rely on road side assistance? What did you expect the response to be if you post about pushing the envelope when logic says you didn't have any reason to do so?

"... I knew there is a “limp-in” ability and that is indeed what got me home. I would have made it just fine if not for the weather factor, which was worse than predicted."

So you waited, and made multiple frustrating phone calls, when you knew you could probably get that last mile out of the battery. And the point of your post was what exactly?
The point was that when this happened my first best option and choice was to act to reduce any chance of damaging my battery by utilizing the infrastructure that I understood to be in place for such things. AAA, Porsche SOS, etc. . I posted the story to warn others of this gap in support for us early adopters. When my better options were exhausted, I chose my least desirable option and limped home. Make of that what you will.

OP, you can’t post a detailed story about how you ran out of energy and then get mad when people rib you a little for it.
I know ribbing when I read it.

OP - If you’re taking some of the responses to your post personally, you shouldn’t. Yes, there is some gentle ribbing going on, but in fact there is also a lot of sympathy for your situation. I for one appreciate that you shared your experience, and lessons learned. Thanks!

This is a great reminder of why driving around with a minimal amount of power is asking for trouble. I was luckier than Lekfx but I had a close call much further than 3 miles from home. However, the main takeaway IMO is to carry a charger with, yes, 120v hookup capability. Then one can knock on practical any door (at least in California) till you find a business or homeowner who will allow your car to be plugged in for a few hours. Then call Uber … or sit and wait. Painful lesson learned but zero risk to the Taycan.

+1, it's the only thing I use the travel charger for. I keep it in the trunk with a 120v cord in case of the dire-est of emergencies. I like that the Taycan comes with a nifty foam form fit holder for the travel charger that fits in the cubby in the trunk.

I'm interested in a picture of your charger in storage. I put mine in the frunk, but honestly that's a bad place in the event of a power issue. Thanks!

Here you go, Just took this pic of the charger in my trunk cubby.

Note: it’s raining like crazy right now in Los Angeles. Hence, the water in the pic.

Thanks so much! It gives me ideas but sorry you had to get wet.

Our friends in LA texted us they’ve already received 5.5 inches and more rain is coming down. They’ll send us an update from the rain gauge in the morning. Please stay safe!

I took my GTS ST right around 10 miles from 0 miles of range along with all the red lights to a DC charger. It wasn’t fun, it didn’t feel good .. and I thought we were doomed.

The one supplied with my car in the UK doesn't fit the foam inset if either of the high or low power chords are attached and since they requires a tool to fit I leave mine on. It is a shame and a bit silly.

So an FYI to people who do run out of charge, and call for a tow. Last year I picked up a bolt in my Cayenne tire, and called Porsche Roadside for a tow to the dealer (I bought the wheel and tire insurance). The tow truck driver called and wanted to make sure I wasn't an EV driver, who was stranded due to lack of charge, as he no longer tows those vehicles. This is in Austin, TX where it seems every other vehicle is a Tesla, so it must be a common occurrence. So if you do run out of charge, keep in mind, the tow driver may refuse to tow your vehicle, especially in locations where the "good old boys" are prevalent.

I’m not sure about the UK one, but the US one also doesn’t fit with the short (outlet side) cord attached. But mine detaches easily with no tools. If I remember right, there is a release mechanism that can be activated hand to detach the cord.

On mine the adapter is held in place by a screw. I do carry both adapters and driver, so I could use the foam but so far have left the (in UK 13Amp) 2.6 kW adapter connected and the commando plug (7.2 kW) adapter available

I have just read this thread and am surprised nobody has explained that during a call, if you go to the phone menu, there is a keypad option and you can certainly generate the appropriate tones. As an alternative, only if you are stopped, just use your personal phone to do so.

Is the screw needed for operation? I haven’t used mine but may do in the summer and noticed when checking it over last night that the charger had been used - presumably by the dealership prior to delivery - and the screw was missing.
