Huh? To me that would BE the reason not to believe him. It sounds like something an SA would tell a customer because he believes that is what the customer wants to hear. Think about it, why would Porsche take better physical care of sold cars than unsold? I mean it might be conceivable that Porsche would prioritize their shipping/deliveries, but saying pre-sold cars are physically protected better during transit than inventory cars makes absolutely no sense! "Yes sir, your car will be meticulously bubble wrapped in transit, but the inventory cars we don't care to protect against the elements, we repaint them anyways and put in a new battery before we put them into the showroom". I would be willing to bet what he said above is absolutely untrue.
I thought the same thing last night when I read that!! I just didn't want to burst anyone's bubble or call them out. But that set off my BS meter BIG time. Just say they're all well-protected, which I'm sure is the case. Often indoors at our U.S. ports as I've come to realize after doing some research. But to act like they care more about one production piece than another, when they're designed to ALL be sold isn't logical at all.

I put my deposit down on Feb 22, they told me my car will arrive in 6 months due to covid, immediately 1 month in they told me the ship has sunk and porsche has a lot of cars to rebuild, alright, then comes the war, then comes supply chain issue. 2 months in, I want to change the model from rwd to 4s, they said I had to rejoin the queue if I want to do so which is 2 years wait. Fine, I’ll stick with rwd. Then followed with 6 months of unknown status. My dealer told me that porsche hq is not giving them allocation and they either not replying email or not giving an estimate at all.
Finally i got a build slot on Jan 23, they told me no bose speaker, alright I’ll have to accept it, price increase, alright I’ll have to accept.

Now I’m in the same situation as you, they told me my car is built and waiting for heater to be installed, estimation will be somewhere around Q3 23.
At this point I’m not too sure if I am a customer or I’m just another cow that they milk.

In this entire deal, nothing favours us as customer. They can do anything they wish, and continue to increase price because theres enough fanboys that will always help the brand, saying it’s just once off, it’s rare case, the car is amazing.

I see my friends collected their merc eqs, their bmw ix all within half a year.
so I’m not too sure only the “premium brand” here is getting all sort of issues.

Very unfortunate that we as customer can do about this situation, so I guess the best I could do is to walk away from the deal.

Times have changed, there’s many more evs now than 2 years ago, while Taycan might be a good car, the deal is just not as sweet as before.
They have 3 years waiting list of customer, missing me alone will do 0 damage to them. If they could delay 3-4 times it means they could do more delay, and by the time I receive the car 12v battery might have issue and car will be stuck in showroom for months without parts again. Sorry, I’m just not ready for this.

It was the Audi E-Tron GT I drove first and was massively underwhelmed, it felt big and clumsy. It put me off even trying a Taycan though months later when the CT came out it suited my requirements so I had a test drive and was flabbergasted how much better it was on the roads around here, it felt smaller and nimble, despite not being, I placed an order a couple of days later.

The Audi A6 doesn’t seem to have an EV version as far as I can tell.

So still waiting for any alternative, never mind many!

If the Taycan didn’t exist there isn’t a single new car I’d bother to buy.
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/audi-a6-e-tron-due-early-2024-saloon-estate-and-hot-rs6

and then the Macan is also arriving in 2024

And these may be available before a new Taycan will be delivered

Maybe my dealer does not dare give this news before the car is delivered to them :CWL: (but I doubt it). At the production of my car he informed me very happy delivery in 2 weeks and the week after stop delivery +3 weeks and now maybe +6 months :headbang:

I admire those who accept these delays. it's just a car we have fun with then it will lace up and we will take another. Why accept a new one which in my head is no longer considered new when it is stored for so long? I understand if it's an end of series with promo at the key ... not when you pay the full price…

Now I just want a Taycan to have fun with!!If it's not exactly how I wanted it, I'll live it better than having to wait until September

Boy these situations tug at your emotions  Here's my update after going to the dealership yesterday. I decided to test drive the only Taycan 4s they had, which was lower spec'd than the one I ordered. I was determined to just pick that car up instead and cancel my order. It has leather, which mine doesn't, but was missing RAS, the technology package, parking assist, ACC, etc. Holy crap this car is FUN to drive! I had forgotten what the experience was like since I haven't been in one since July of last year. My wife and I went back and forth... Do we take the used car now, or wait and get what I wanted? You know what, to my surprise after that test drive, I decided this car is just simply worth the wait. I can't find anything like it on the market and an EQS or Tesla just does not scratch that itch for me. I think I'd be upset with myself if I settled just because I wasn't patient enough. So for others who are thinking about cancelling, maybedo another test drive to remind yourself of what you're waiting for. It definitely made me feel better oddly enough...

This. I was smitten when the Mission E prototype was unveiled, and then I had to wait for the production model, for the wagon body style, for an allocation, for production, delivery etc. Since I didn't have to take the bus to go places, I've decided that waiting to get the car I wanted (and the only one I bought new in the last ~20? years) was ok. It's not like I could have done something to speed that up. The more you think about it (or check TYD), the worse it gets. Just.. relax, it'll get there and hopefully you'll own/enjoy it for far longer than the wait time.

That is the conclusion I came to when after over a year of waiting I had an opportunity to buy a TTCT that someone else configured and dropped out. It was fun to test drive, but I knew once the initial fun wore off, I'd be regretting not having options such as RAS, PDCC, etc. It would bug me for however long I owned that car. So I decided to wait (at that time it was an unknown amount of time since I didn't even have an allocation yet).

That is exactly what I did last year.

I also was getting annoyed by the wait and considering cancelling so I asked for another drive in the demo car and had precisely the same outcome.

I waited and am glad I did. There is no other car on sale I would consider spending my own money on, despite the frustrations.

I know you’re getting a lot of advice on this thread. My two cents are based on being in a similar boat as yours. We ordered a base sedan in late December and it is now in the “waiting for a heater” line in Emden. MSRP of $118k with some nice options. SA gave us the option of canceling, reordering or waiting until “late Q3, early Q4” for the heaters to get to the 900+ cars on the dock waiting for them. Install times not quoted (and if I were told, I’d take it with a grain of salt). During that post-freeze period, I got the same itch as you… what did I miss, should I have ordered a 4S, did I really need the variable opacity glass roof?

On a whim, I began scanning the used market and found a bunch of used 4s, GTS and Turbos with incredibly low miles, clean Carfaxes and crazy low prices. I put together a feature-by-feature list of what I would have reordered (on a 4s) and laid it side by side with a filtered list of used Taycans with under 4,000 miles. Lo and behold, I found three 2021 Turbos with a 95%+ fit to my wish list at prices very near my 4s build. Just cancelled my order with Porsche and pulled the trigger on one of those turbos and will get the car in 10 days. No regrets.

Nice! That's a good way to approach it. I may try something similar if this goes on for much longer. If the SA is right and I am not waiting on a heater, then maybe things will speed up in a few weeks... Wishful thinking of course...

Correct I am livid about the situation. I'm not the only one. Arguing with me isn't helping unfortunately. I'm literally loosing sleep over this issue trying to decide whether to cancel or wait. The longer this mess goes on the more I am swaying towards cancelling. I've given the dealer this week and next then pretty sure I will cancel. It's a shame as this is not the dealers fault. They have been great to me.
Reject it and move on, get another later.
You’ll never be happy with the delayed car- you’ll always have the question in the back of your mind “Did that (insert problem here) happen because it was sat in a field?

At least in the EU you have the luxury of inventory cars to look through. At least sometimes. ( edited, thought you were in the US!)

Agreed. I've given the dealer 2 weeks then I will cancel. They've been great so far so want to give them a chance to resolve it. There are allocations for MY23 still available in France but not many used. Plenty of new cars in stock in Germany so I could import from there also.

Going from a base to a Turbo, nice perk of the heatergate!
