I have recently been given a new and updated Porsche Charger to replace the one I purchased in 2022 with my Taycan. This was swapped as a remedy for the recall regarding the potential for the cable to over heat and possible catch fire. For what it’s worth the older model worked perfectly.
Two months into the new one and I have yet to have a plug and charge session. The new charger when plugged in immediate says that the charger cable is over heated and will not engage the car.
My Porsche dealer has had it in their shop twice and it works on their 220 system. They’re telling me that it’s probably my home electrical installation, possibly something to do with the ground? (even though the older one worked fine)
Has anyone else had the same issue and if so, what was the solution to fix it?
Thanks for any insight you guys might have. I’m about to put a hammer to this one!

Is it possible that your home 220v outlet is sub-optimal in some regard? There are some specific manufacturers that were highly recommended for EV charging at home back when this was a hot topic on this forum. Perhaps check with your installer to see which company made the outlet you are using, assuming it was installed for your EV?

I got my Taycan in January 2025 and the new charger had problems. The solution was to replace the short cable that plugs into the electrical outlet and the charger.

I'd get the Tesla mobile connector and a NACS adapter. It's way less bulky and it does the job. Even the good relatively bulky pigtail style NACS adapters can be stuffed into the Tesla's FAR smaller case and still be zipped shut. If you're ever really desperate and have to use the 120 pigtail, the Tesla mobile connector runs at a 50% higher rate than the colossal finicky Porsche one.
