I'm currently considering purchasing a Taycan, but I have reservations about the RWD basic model. Speed isn't a major concern for me, but I am apprehensive about potential loss of traction, especially in wet conditions. Have you noticed the rear end slipping out frequently when driving the RWD version?

While I understand that some people enjoy the nature of this driving experience, personally, I would dread it.

Thanks

Most modern cars have effective stability control systems which prevent this sort of thing, and the Porsche one is a good, so no need to worry (as long as you don’t switch it off!).

Thank you very much. I was a bit apprehensive about it because my wife drives a rear-wheel ICE Merc, and it feels like a death trap. Backend is always coming out even at low speeds i.e. 20mph in wet conditions.

Traction control is very good, maybe the best I’ve ever experienced. And the best thing is that the system doesn’t seem to shut off power while maintaining complete control even in wet conditions.

I'll get some winter wheels too.
2WD is no problem. Tyres are more important.
In cold/winter/snow/ice/wet conditions a 2WD with winter tyres
would completely out perform 4WD with summer tyres
Thanks, it's just a case of swapping the wheels to winter and all should be fine.

If it's not on purpose, that's not normal behaviour for any fairly modern car.

We weren't sure if the car itself had issues because it happens so frequently. Dealership checked and said everything is fine. Even encountering the slightest puddle causes it to kick out. On one occasion, my wife did a 360 on the motorway in cold conditions, fortunately with no crash or injuries. I just wanted to confirm if this is a common occurrence with rear-wheel-drive vehicles. From what I gather, as long as you have winter wheels, the PSM is pretty good with the Taycan.

That is scary! I understand your concern now. Is it on its standard spec tyres? What is it?

We got our RWD on 27th December so it's been pretty wet and cold ever since and I've not experienced any problems at all with traction. I've driven in all driving modes and have been exploring the performance so I would say it's no issue in that respect.

Traveled 8000 km with rear wheel drive and no traction problems...just joy! Of course I have summer and winter tires

I have tested mine quite a bit this winter. On slippy wet surfaces I can get it to lightly kick out if I put the foot down hard in a corner but the car immediately brings it back. In the snow I have been super impressed with how much it takes to make it slide. If you turn off stability control you really see how much difference it makes - It's fun but WAY easier to slide the rear end. But even with it off it's still impressively controllable.

I have driven BMW 3 series and MB C class and they are way more scary in the wet than the Taycan.
