The current regulation was introduced in 2010. It varies by region, but in general winter tires must be mounted no later than Nov 15 and until March 15. As an alternative you can carry snow-chains, but, as far as I know, none of the Taycan's approved tire sets support snow-chains (in fact, the chains available on the Tequipment web site can be used on winter tires only). Regardless, I do not think snow chains are a replacement for winter tires. But again, that's for another thread....
You must be talking about a particular part of Italy, because every source I've found says winter tyres are not mandatory in Italy. I find it hard to believe people are switching to winter tyres in Reggio Calabria!

My apologies to all friends who are here for any hint on when they will get their cars (like I was, every day, until last week).

I know you couldn't care less about a discussion on the Italian Roads Laws (Codice della Strada), where a member from Britain, living in the Netherland, keeps questioning the knowledge on that subject of another member who, being born in Italy and living there, should be conversant on it.

But I feel I owe @Throb one final replay. This is my last post on the subject on this thread, I promise.

So, Throb: if one lives in Reggio Calabria (or in Milan, for that matter) and never plans to live the city, he would be fine (“why buy a Taycan then?”, I would ask him…). But if he wants to take a trip (I cannot believe he would never go to Cosenza, or even to Naples) then, believe it or not, he either mounts winter tires or, as I said, he carries snow-chains, ready to be mounted on suitable tires (see Exhibit A or B below).

Personally I don't find it hard to believe: after all, it rains and snows even in Calabria (see Exhibit C), and the Sila mountains (elev. 2.000 mt) are only 200km from Reggio.

That said, I am neither a policeman nor a tires retailer; so, if you ever decide to come to Italy you are welcome, with or without winter tires. In the latter case I wish the Police will not pull you over :).

I am attaching:

A) A link (via Google Street View) to a road sign on the Highway from Reggio Calabria to Salerno/Naples. It says it all.

C) A picture taken on the same Highway, half way from Reggio to Naples (by the way, there is a tesla Supercharger at that exit. I have been there three times with my Model 3 and I hope it will be open soon to non Tesla cars for my next trip this winter).

Thanks for the photos, but they’re not relevant. The discussion is about whether winter tyres are a legal requirement in Italy. They're not. I could happily drive my Fiat 500 in the vast majority of Italy on summer tyres during winter, and not break any laws. They're only required on certain sections of Autostrada which are prone to snow. That's a very different thing to “winter tyres are mandatory in Italy”. You could have just said that in the first place.

Please stop it. There are many people on this thread who get notifications and we are all interested in the delivery of the 12V batteries. We don’t care about your opinion on winter tyres in Italy. @xy911k already explained the situation. If you don’t agree deal with it, talk to him in private or open a separate thread.

On the 12V battery topic: each car with the missing battery has a “campaign” to change the battery that the dealer can click on to get instructions (documentation) on how to resolve it. This specific campaign (called WNJ7) had no such documentation available.

I was just announced by my dealer that the documentation became available and that they were able to “place an order for a battery”. However, they said that they do not have a delivery estimate yet.

I find it a bit odd that they have to “place an order” themselves to get the battery when the factory knows they need it; instead of just sending it, but that’s the news I got. I guess it sounds like progress.

My car is still in factory so I hope that my dealer doesn't have to order it. The worst thing would be delay to the miscommunication.

I think that is great for all buyers who's car has been delivered to their dealer without the battery who can then order and fit.
At least as long as their dealer orders a battery they are on their way.
For those with a car mouldering in storage in Germany still in the lap of the gods with no idea of when or in what order batteries will be fitted :(

Don't see it necessarily as a down side. Cars at the dealers had to wait for campaign documentation and for orders. Cars sitting at the dock or in storage in Germany are actually filling up space for Porsche and the chance of those cars getting a higher priority is high.

One may have thought so but it seems not.
My car, which has been in storage 10 weeks now, has an estimated arrival at dealer date of 25th November whereas several people whose cars were delivered to dealers without battery have had their dealer on the case pushing for a battery and some have got their cars already.

I am not aware that any cars that were in storage gave been delivered yet.

I'll start a thread so people can comment.

Actually there was one post (which I can't find) of a car that had its battery mounted just before it left the warehouse. Don't fret. It doesn't look like there is some logical (to me) order. Our fellow forum members from Italy had their car built 17th of July, and I had it 7th of July and still haven't gotten it. Keep your hopes up. Let's hope we get a car with no issues for a long time and then this whole wait will be worth it!

I'm not fretting, I am fed up.
I have never had such shite service before and I have had 72 years without this level of irritation ;) so not very tolerant now.
It is almost not worth bothering with any more for me.

Mine was ordered on 19th July 2021, "started" 16th April 2022 but not finished until 30th July and still in storage.

My understanding when I first talked to my SA (in Aug, when they received the car) was that the allocation of batteries was scheduled by country (more likely by production period/ country, I would say; but still not necessarily by VIN). He told me back then already that batteries for the italian market were expected in the first two weeks of Oct, and this proved to be true based on my case and the OP. I think that your dealar "placing the order" now is a sign that battery are now available in Romania and you will get your car soon.
