I'm planning to drive Austin->Houston same day round trip this week, and have never used a supercharger.
The Waller location seems to have v4 and magic docks, which I hope will allow me to charge quickly as I don't have the 400v charge option installed.
Can anyone here confirm this works well, or suggest a better place to charge? I've stopped at the EA columbus location but this one seems more direct.
Thanks!

For station specific reviews, use plugshare app.

That said I'm not aware of any Tesla stations that have v4 800v+ stalls.

This article from last month confirms that they are running more current, but not more volts.

Remember Tesla is not incentivized to improve the charging infrastructure for other manufacturers, so they're only just trying to improve their dud cybercheese wedge, which is questionable how quickly they need to roll out v4 given the demand for the wedge is near zero today.

Yes! The Buc-ee’s Waller chargers with Magic Dock work for our cars and provide a convenient, fast charging option on 290. See my post here with pics of a recent Porsche Club drive that started from this location.

Note, OP has a j1.1 without the 400v booster, so he'll be limited to 50kw at Tesla

Yeah thanks, I saw this last month and was confused thinking things might be better for me :).

Oh, if you don’t have the 150kw charging option there’s nothing anybody / any charger can do to make it any faster. ☹

but to answer OP's question, the charger works for non-Tesla vehicles! lol albeit at 50kws. It may work if you plan an extended stop for the full Buc-ee's experience!

US-290 appears to be a charging desert! EA is building a station outside of northwest Houston, but doesn't appear to be online yet; https://www.plugshare.com/location/703466

According to this plugshare map, I would consider driving TX-71 to I-10 (note plotted stations are all CCS1 stations, including 50kw)

Edit: found out Mercedes Benz is building a charging station at the same Buc-ee's location. But it's not available yet. When online these will be proper 250 kw + 800v stations open to all EVs.

According to Plugshare, the closest 800V stations on US290 are either at:

Thanks for all the responses. We ended up just stopping at EA Columbus on the way there but also the Tesla site on the way back mostly just to make sure I had the app and everything working and setup for payment.

The Mercedes chargers are all in place, looked very ready to use just not powered up, and there were three local utility trucks apparently connecting the transformer to the grid, so hopefully will be operational for next time.

I haven't charged at a Tesla Supercharger yet, but I set up my account as a backup for when Electrify America stations are full and there is a queue of cars waiting for an open station. Once your account is set up, you can find Tesla Superchargers with a CCS adapter. Tesla Superchargers with CCS are sparse; for instance, on the East Coast there are none in VA/WV, but NJ, NY, PA, MA, and CT have numerous sites.

^ The location in Vermont is also helpful for anyone traveling to Burlington along Route 7. Plus it’s the only good station anywhere in Vermont open to the public other than the poorly sited NEVI station.
