That's pretty pessimistic as well.
It's a different chemistry but that doesn't mean they are no good.
There are recalls of newer batteries (with the new chemistry) as well.

After 3 module failures within 16 months and 3 years into ownership, leading to an entire new battery pack, I was merely referring to my Taycan MY 2020 as well as to this:

"C (which is 2020) had a lot of problems. Very unstable."

I really hope your right but I don’t see a 10x reduction in price in only 3 more years.

If EVs really need to go main stream, the industry as a whole needs to come up with a solution for battery replacements, which are not rendering any car older then 4 years a total waste!

Believing that this is a sustainable business model is insanity!

The Porsche TSB issued in July, 2022, says 120v supply cable for Porsche Mobile chargers is for emergency use only in USA.
I can find no revision or cancellation of that direction in Porsche TSBs posted at NHTSA after July, 2022.

Porsche North America customer service specifically told me the reason my dealer has stated my 2021 Taycan RWD with the base battery is no longer applicable to the Porsche service bulletin from 2022 stating the 125V charger is for emergency use only is because my VIN shows my vehicle has had this issue resolved under this campaign. I did ask if there was anything in writing what these “corrections, modifications or repairs” were that were done to my vehicle but she was unable to answer with any definitive actions that were taken.
She simply stated the only way for a customer to know if their vehicle external charger/on-board charging system is still under the 2022 Porsche Service Bulletin warning campaign is to have their VIN checked.
So apparently, maybe magically, Porsche now states in 2025 my vehicle can be charged at 120V for as long as I wish and there will be no risk of fire or damage to the charging infrastructure or the battery.
They must now feel confident the risks are low enough to no longer advise customers to only charge at 120V in emergencies for less than 12 hours.
…or it’s not worth the huge cost to repair/replace tens of thousands of Taycan charging systems components & batteries since they are more than half way through the maximum warranty periods for the main battery & charging system.
They have a solid 5 years of data to decide that it’s now ok to charge at 120V however a customer chooses. This was very clear when I was told there was no need to limit charging to 12 hours but she suggested charging from 20% to 85% would take at least 3 days at 120V.
I would love to get something in writing but I won’t hold my breath…
I will likely call back again in a week or two to see if I get the same answer as I did the other day.
If I do, then it will likely tell me that the Porsche customer service agent took good notes of our call so the next agent will make the same statements about 120V charging no longer being an issue which they will see the moment they enter my VIN.
The true test will be if multiple other Taycan owners of 2020-2024 vehicles call customer service with the same request, if 120V charging is still for emergency use only? Once each customer gives their VIN and get the same answer I got then we’ll know Porsche feels the risk is truly low as least for Porsche.
I wish I had recorded my conversation with Porsche CS but I will for my next call so I have a record of their new position on 120V charging…

I’m also wondering if anyone who has purchased a 2025 Taycan shows this advice in their operating manual titled:
“General Precautions on 120V Supply Cable Use”
I would have expected this statement to be included in all vehicle operating manuals for all 2023 & newer models if the Porsche Service Bulletin from 2022 was still in effect.
I would guess Porsche never put this language in any vehicle manual after the Porsche Service Bulletin was released in late 2022.
I believe they leave this advice hanging out there since it only helps Porsche without putting them on record that all 120V charging is for emergency use.
They’ve already gotten away with inferring emergency use only back in 2022 with many owners thinking this is still true today 2+ years later.
No reason for Porsche to reissue new advice on 120V charging when they can simply say to every customer that the service bulletin advising “120V charging emergency use only” no longer applies to their specific VIN.
Actually a pretty effective way to deal with a potentially costly recall or should I say a clever way to avoid a recall…

I think the exploding and burning is controlled with profiles and timers. What are your minimum explosion and target fire settings? Are you using preferred fire times? When are fires the cheapest for you?

It’s pretty simple for me at this point. Porsche is telling me I can charge at 120V for as long as I want based on my VIN.
They do still recommend not charging to 100% and leaving it inside any structure above 85% but these are only recommendations not requirements. The 85% charging level is related to the battery recalls ARB6 & ARB7 which I assume will have more advice/recommendations to come once the new software to analyze battery health & performance has been released and data for the associated vehicles has been collected & analyzed.
I’m expecting nothing to come of this for the vast majority of Taycan owners so I’m just going to park in my garage, charge to 85% at 120V. On the bright side I can see my detached garage from my bedroom window so if it burns won’t harm our actual home.
I have too much stuff in my garage anyway so if it burns down then I’ll get a big check for an actual fire sale. I can build a perfectly organized new garage & buy two new cars to put in it!
Maybe Taycan & Maycan EVs so I have double the fire risk as I do now!
My association may have no choice but to let me dig up their road when their wiring from my townhouse sub panel to the detached garage must be replaced after being melted.
What a way to finally get a 220V circuit in my garage…. There’s always a silver lining!

Joking aside, I have been on an 80% max charge instruction since the beginning of November for the ARB5 recall. I charge most nights with the car on the driveway and I'm half expecting to go out one morning to the car on fire... I have no logic for this other than unease about the situation, however the car does do very random electrical related sh*t from time to time. I jumped in the car on Monday morning and immediately got the red circle of death. Switched off and on again and it was gone and hasn't returned, but fear this is probably only a matter of time.

For such a fantastic car I can't say I have a huge amount of confidence that it's not going to randomly fail on me one day.

Luckily I don’t rely on my Taycan for daily use. It’s is a super model car that gets driven around town a few times a week at the most so I can’t imagine she will fail on me with such light use. If she does go up in flames unpredictably then that’s what supermodels do when they begin to age but I’ll always love her…
