Taycan Data Package

I wanted to avoid purchasing the Taycan Data Package, which at £19 per month for 7GB is daylight robbery! (Shame on you Porsche) With Audi you can use any mobile SIM. Has anyone used the included data (I think it is 1GB per month?

Taycan has an eSIM - so few options. Here in the USA (CA) it appears Porsche might be switching from AT&T to Verizon - which might explain why things are all screwed up. I would happily pay the stupid 20usd pcm they want to get my in car data back.. without a data plan you cannot login to your car if you delete your profile. Real time traffic also does not work and nor does Apple Music. And the Porsche phone app obviously doesn’t work - no remote services - like cooling, open/close and charging info.

I haven't added the extra data package (in Sweden) and my voice control works, as does internet radio, Google maps and the Waze-like updates on traffic while using navigation.
I did however find this unexpected info in the Good to Know app, where it refers to being able to use external wifi hotspots (incl mobile phones) but haven't tried it. Not sure what features would take advantage of that network though.

Not sure about the eSIM... The Taycan PCM documentation ("Good to Know" app) clearly indicates that it uses a "micro SIM". Maybe its wrong?

Regardless, I don't think trying to change the SIM out would be a good idea. It would very likely lead to a whole host of problems - not the least of which would be the inability of the Porsche Online Services from contacting/updating the vehicle remotely...

The Taycan uses an eSim which you cannot change. The external hotspot functionality has not yet been enabled (same with the Taycan’s WiFi functionality).

Are you saying that the SIM card referenced in the PCM specs would only be used for enabling a WiFi hotspot? (...and not for vehicle connectivity?)

I would expect Porsche to lock that down in any case so they could sell you the service. (IOW: Not allow "bring your own SIM")

The eSim is used by the car to connect to the Porsche mothership to perform behind the scene updates like navigation map updates. I don’t know if the Wi-Fi (when enabled) will be part of the extra cost data package. The connection to an external hotspot is the most interesting option if it is enabled at some point.

At least in EU it also provides Internet radio and google map searches. I’ve heard that with the extra data plan the car’s hotspot will give you 7GB worth of internet usage and that it’s working. Haven’t tried using an external hotspot yet but will do so later.

So what is the "Mini SIM" as mentioned in the specifications used for?

...or is it just bad information that got cut and paste from some older PCM spec (before they transitioned to an eSIM)?
