Both are EVs so remove depreciation from the equation as both will tank.
Come on W1NGE - its far from an EV - Hybrids dont tank like our full EV's do. Here are the facts... (bmw and porsche websites)

3years / £23k down / 10,000miles
  • Taycan GTS @ £118,355 = £1,899p/m GFV = £48,848
  • BMW M5 @ £111,405.00 = £1338p/m GFV = £50,898
So a quick bit of maths tells us that the Porka will lose £69,507 in three years lol The M5 will lose nearly £10k less; not to mention the cheaper monthly (£561p/m - £20k across the term)!!?!? So... across three years the M5 is going to cost around £30k less; and that's the very worst case....

Clearly we're not talking running costs here but I think its fairly clear that the Porsche costs more and will be worth less.

And finally come the day when you want to part exchange one of these two - i know which one id be wanting to get a price for - the m5 would no doubt have equity the Taycan just wont.

The Porsche "loses" 58.7%. The BMW 54.3% on a finance deal. Same ball park.

Will be interesting to see what the car's then actually sell for.

The monthlies are nothing to do with the car, and everything to do with Porsche being more inclined to spank owners renting their cars.

Run costs should absolutely be factored in too.

6 figure executive sports saloons cost a lot shocker.

The running costs are covered by the difference in overall costs, quite easily.

And the running costs for longer road trips are quite good for the M5. Harry Metcalfe reported about 29 mpg on longer trips. So very much depends on your use case.

Here in France you can buy a service plus inclusive for 3 years and 36 k miles for about 2500 Euro.

Future sales price is of course quite unknown.

I drove a 2016 M5 for long trips through Europe 10k miles + in 2024. The fuel costs were not even twice the cost of charging! And driving outside of the main motorways, it was much easier to fill up and no fiddling with different cards or apps. Just a normal credit card for payment. And the range was far superior!

So it will take a lot of man maths to justify the cost of driving a Taycan GTS.

Chaps this is a non debate I incorrectly thought that the M5 was.an i5M EV hence my comment which was corrected a while back.

Hi all,

thanks for all comment, financially M5 would probably had more change, but I couldn't get over the audio, lacking night vision and plastics. Plus the fact that I do drive my X5 45e on electric mode whenever possible, I'm afraid that I would just have a cold V8 sitting on front. It certainly has real character and it is hiding the weight surprisingly well, even on icy roads.

Cannot have both, so

I came into conclusion as already the 4S that I had as I test drive car was impressive, I decided to order GTS ST.

Thanks for everyone's contribution.

Good choice - welcome to the club :like:.

Before getting my GTS-ST I had a Panamera Turbo-S e-hybrid and like you found myself driving around with the V8 silent a lot of the time.
