Taycan J1.2 vs Macan EV infotaiment

Hi,

I thought at first that Taycan J1 II will be using the same Android based infotaiment as the Macan EV because it has Youtube, but now I'm starting to think that's not the case.

Any one can confirm?

The PCM operating systems are different. Macan EV uses the latest Android Automotive OS Platform, which is very bloated if you ask me.

2025 Taycan came with screenhitsTV from the factory. And then sometime in the past month or so, I now have YouTube alongside screenhitsTV. Must have updated via OTA.
ScreenhitsTV app is slow to startup, but once you connect the streaming accounts you have, it's a pretty nice aggregation of all my options. Youtube was a nice bonus that works pretty well too.

I agree that we cannot expect or need this, but I will take any tech upgrade that is offered as this is a helpful feature especially for us who have spent on the Passenger screen. The press release is not clear what model years will get this feature.

It's my strong suspicion that J1 Taycans will not get YouTube, because the passenger screen is visible for the driver. J1.2 Taycan passenger screens are polarized so the driver cannot see it for safety/distraction reasons.

Also, I don't believe J1 Taycans will get any significant software updates via OTA. Only map updates.

The way the press release is suggesting that YouTube is available on the Center screen for the Driver when stationary and then on the Passenger Screen, but that screen only works if the Passenger is in the seat. Therefore, this argument is not a strong one in my view. Yes, they have now polarized the Passenger screen on all models.

My read is that it is implicit in the press release (normally it would say), talks only of new models (and newly delivered cars) and besides our PCM firmware will be out of kilter with what's needed.

I may be wrong of course.

J1.1 and j1.2 run the same PCM, based on Linux i believe, just one has the latest updates and one doesn't. Hardware wise, they are 2 version apart, but from what my dealer told me, its all small revisions - different cable harness, different memory manufacturer,etc; while processor and actual important stuff remains unchanged.

Macan EV runs on completely different operating system, android, with a PCM UI. Processor, memory, and eveything is very different than Taycan.
