Taycan or Panamera?

Like mentioned above why do you have range anxiety when you drive less than 30 miles a day in general and you do have an X5 hybrid anyway for longer trips?

I inferred that the X5 was at the “other” home..

I went from a Panamera GTS to a Taycan CT. Initially I had some range anxiety, but as I got more comfortable with charging, and installed a good charger in place of the Porsche one, my range anxiety went away completely. Each morning, if I choose to drive the Taycan that day, my car is waiting for me at 85% charge. I use my car around town only and there just is not 200+ miles in that travel. Any long distance travel, well that is what planes are for. All new Porsches, except most 911s, have high depreciation. So it is what it is. No regrets after two years of Taycan driving. I have tried a Panamera hybrid and own a 4SCT with 35,000 km after 18 months. I wouldn't trade my 4S for a Panamera. I had to charge less than 3 times so far outside of home. There is not only EA to charge your car and I hope you took the option of 150KW charger. If that is the case, you can charge anywhere else if there is no EA around. Also, most of the time unless you are very low, even on an EA station of 350KW, you may never reach higher than 180KW of power due to your SOC. There is life after EA for sure. By the way, there are almost no EA stations here in Canada so we charge most of the times on a 400V infrastructure here and still no issues at all.

I would agree with many of the comments above. I drove Panameras continuously between 2011 and 2022 and loved them. The last one I drove for 7 years without a single problem, but the air suspension died in 2022 and the $25,000 repair bill was a deal breaker. Picked up an 8-month-old CPO Taycan 4S in June 2022 with 4+ years of warranty and I think I'm a convert--meaning I probably won't ever go back. I love this car. As for the charge anxiety, I do not really understand this concept although it is a common misperception. If there is some physical limitation at one of your homes that prevents the installation of a charger, and you can't leave with a full charge, then perhaps. In reality you really do not need to rely on public charging ever, unless you choose to make use of your 3-year Electrify America subscription, or the distance between your two homes is approaching or exceeds 200 miles--I didn't see any details on your commute. I have the 72 kW battery and I commute every week between my two homes. It's about 40+ miles round trip to work and then 125 miles without a charge in between at the beginning of the weekend, so about 170 miles for the day, and I always arrive at home two with 30 to 35% charge. Granted this trip only occurs in the spring through fall months, I would still be ok with winter stats (charging time and battery use efficiency are noticeably different in the winter). On the topic of resale values plummeting recently, sad but very true. Wouldn't recommend trade/sale in the current environment if not necessary, and "new buyers" might get a very good deal on a not-new Taycan right about now...

I loved my Panamera but it’s a higher level car than the Taycan. Bigger and more luxurious inside. It’s also a better cruiser than the Taycan but I am done with Porsche ICE vehicles except for the 911. Porsche takes advantage of its customers on service big time and their ICE vehicles offer many opportunities for them to do so. For commuting and kid duty I plan to run on electrons from here on out….with an ICE 911 planned for fun and special occasions. So it’s Taycan for now until Porsche develops 2nd gen EV tech…then I will likely go back to the Panamera as a daily.

May Taycan is in for the a repair (again ++) and I got a Panamera PHEV. Just did a drive. For half and hour I really enjoyed the engine sound. It feels quicker in sportsmode than my 4 CT. It actually is half a second faster 0 to 100 but it feels quicker than that. It only had 8 way seat but they feel a bit more supportive than my 14w seats. It feels heavier in corners but the Panamera didn’t have rws and my 4 CT does. The heavy feeling didn’t bother me but it was obvious. On the highway it felt more planted / stable.

Like mentioned by others it is more luxurious.

The electric acceleration at low speed wasn’t bad at all.

Picking up my Taycan tomorrow and see if I can live with silence

PCM was older than the Taycan. Don’t know how old the car is and if newer pcm versions are available.

Higher trim and better built but surprisingly Taycan has a more luxurious ride and handles much better. Panamera is very expensive to service, I paid 3k euro for filters, oils, brake fluid and spark plugs, ripoff from Porsche I'd say.

Panamera feels faster because of the engine sound probably but its far from instant response you get in a Taycan, you have to push sports response to get it moving.
Indeed seats are better and more supportive but surprisingly on long trips Taycan made me fell less tired, maybe because I had to drive slower.
EV mode is good for driving around town but feels sluggish compared to Taycan and range is not enough. PCM is basically the same on all model year, cannot update to 6.0.

Just drove back with my 4 CT and dropped of the Panamera.

The Taycan is better in so many ways :

Although it is heavier it feels lighter than the Panamera. Corners are easier. Probably to lower Centre of gravity and I do have RWS. The Taycan is better around corned. Panamera feels more like a boat.

acceleration in the Panamera is more dramatic but when driving back in the Taycan it is quicker from 80-120.

the Panamera has some lag before accelerating that the Taycan doesn’t have

the Taycan is more silent. I drove the Panamera in full electric mode at 120 km/h but the Taycan has less windnoise , tire noise and general noises. I do have acoustic glass in the Taycan.

PCM in the Panamera looks outdated. Older map design, icons, …

I always put my left foot left to the brake paddle . This is impossible in the Pana, can’t squeeze it in. I do have shoe size 12. Had to put my foot I the support which is uncomfortable because I have long legs.

The seat were a bit more comfortable in the Panamera.

So to conclude. I wouldn’t go back to ICE or PHEV. I wouldn’t buy a Panamera over a Taycan.

The V6 is nice for a day and some accelerations but driving without engine noise is more comfortable.

Good to try something else now and then to know what you can’t get better. For a car you can do this.

It has more chrome everywhere. The doorhandels are metal in the Taycan they are made of plastic. The seats are a bit thinker. The switches are a bit more design. It has a bit more leather around the dashboard. All this gives it a more luxurious look. I think part of this can be explained by an effort to reduce weight in the Taycan.

I’ve taken a cursory glance at friend’s new S class and just rolled my eyes at how “luxurious” he claims it is, because my biggest luxury is not having to fill up in -30 degree weather. But to each their own….which is why I asked. Haven’t been in a panamera, so just assumed most P products were similar across the board, except maybe the Macan being slightly less

I have both so I can add few things.
Panamera comes with metal, wood or carbon trim on the dashboard not shiny black plastic and on door panels as well. Doors have soft-close and stay open in any position you want.
The rear side bolsters are leather wrapped not hard plastic. I want to leather wrap those parts because it looks disappointing in a 100k+ Taycan. Ceiling console is much nicer with ambient lighting, Taycan console is like in a 3-series.
Also its better built, plastics don't move if you push them.
My conclusion is Taycan went through too much cost cutting not weight saving. Honestly if it didn't ride and handle so good I would have kept the Panamera.

Panamera has more options, like power adjust rear seats and power rear sunshades.

I had the power rear sunshades and they were really nice. I wouldn’t get a Panamera over a Taycan because of them, but stuff like that makes me think it’s more luxury.

I owned a 2019 Panamera 4s and liked the car as a daily driver but when the Taycan came out and I drove a 2020 turbo I immediately traded in the Panamera. Prior to the Panamera I had a 911 4s . I view the Taycan as the best of a panamera and a 911 combined . The 911 is an awesome sports car but had two many limitations - 2 persons - no luggage space etc…. And the Panamera , while and excellent driving Sedan, It is not a sports car. I feel the Taycan can be both especially in the sportier trims . A lot of discussion about luxury in prior posts is misguided in my opinion - if you want Luxury get a mercedes S class or BMW in luxury spec .
