The SSD was about 40-50 euro the size that was needed. Nothing close to 2k for that thing. I will try to search for the PCM unit on the Internet to see whether it's still the case with the drives.

I envy everyone of you ? You all live the perfect life if you want to spend 2k on an upgrade of the computer in your car to make it a little snappier. The world is in crisis with all the problems we have on all continents, but here we are discussing the most useless upgrade ever on a Porsche. Thanks for the laughs.
Do you go through an existental crisis while using your phone with cobalt mined by 6-8 year old slaves?

What about when you buy your shirt, manufactured in bangladesh by modern day slaves?

Or what about your luxury brand bag assambled in france / italy by modern day slave immigrants, not allowed to leave the factory made to sleep on the floors (yes, this happened in Milan, Italy)?

Let's be real; the world is a shitty place. You can't live while thinking about all the horrible things, as everything in the modern world has a horrible component :)

Geez...I guess some things never change. It seems that it's the MIB3 unit and it's the same as the one fitted in Audi cars.

I bet it's HDD and if disk is changed it will run 5x faster. First mod I will do after my warranty is over :CWL:

Not sure they would see it / care enough to void your warranty over this. I doubt Porsche has hardware UID identification in their PCM, like Apple on iphones ?
And with how many issues this car has, I would not let that warranty run out ?

So this preatty much clears it then, that it's most likely a HDD. And the noise people were hearing from the PCC is the bloody HDD ?

Well, if anyone does this upgrade any time soon, post the results :D

Regarding the aforementioned and hypothetical $2000 PCM upgrade. I'm reminded of a story about a plumber who whacks a pipe with a hammer to fix a clog and charges $500. The client protests, saying he should only charge $50 for such a simple fix. When pressed, the plumber itemizes the bill - $50 for hitting the pipe, and $450 for knowing where to hit it.... Coming from a Tesla where I indeed paid $2000 to upgrade from computer V1 to computer V2, it was worth it. Everything was faster and it made the car feel new again (this was after several years of ownership).

Here is the disk I keep as backup from the PCM 3.1. Let’s see what version 6 will have :)

This 100GB HDD has equipped the very late Panamera 970. 2009 version was a 40GB. Considering 95% of them are still working in cars 15 years after, I would say they were pretty reliable, which was probably the main priority of Porsche at the time.
So hardware changes over the years are possible for PCM6 too.

You should check Rennlist. Everyone swapped the PCM HDD. Some even before it failed on them :CWL: But to be honest it was very easy there because the disk was mounted in a separate casing outside the unit so the worst part was removing the unit itself.

It would be best if they dumped all of this and went back to 5 analog gauges so people won’t get distracted while driving.

Porsche is always several years out of date on electronics.
I just dropped off my 2021 taycan4s with a PCM that was stuck with the dreaded blue circle of death.. two fingered salute didn't work.. really hate the PCM software- its just crap. I told them to not hard boot the PCM they tried that before and it 'worked' for about a week.. it either needs to get reflashed or a new PCM installed. I love the car except for the PCM software- its just crap and if this does not get fixed gonna get rid of the car its just not worth it... and it looks like Porsche is aware of this as the move to android OS and the VW group investment in Rivian proves they are understanding they have a real sw issue.

I'm perfectly aware of all this, I'm a previous multiple times Panamera owner. Everyone you say...
I run a Panamera dedicated french speaking forum with 4000 members and very few of them have swapped the PCM hard drive. Even fewer had issue with the original hard drive. I swapped mine for SSD perf when installing a Carplay board but I'm not considering myself as just a regular Panamera owner. ;)

Same, I think I'm responsible for most of the Isudar sales lol. Anyway, I will get my car next week. Not sure I will open the PCM right away but knowing myself I will do it sooner or later...
