The detective called and said they located the car in Manhattan on Saturday night. It was parked a block away from the precint. It is on a flat bed being towed back to PA. Weird and strange that they kept using the stolen license plate.s

The dealer had been working with me on specing a replacement. Am I within my rights not to take the car back, and insist on a replacement?

Legally, if they recover the car, it goes back to you. From there it's a pissing match between you and your dealer for damages. Your hope is the dealer wants to "make things right" and offers you a decent amount to buy the car from you, and tries to make you whole.

Otherwise, you'll probably need to talk to a lawyer, and stop posting.

I am happy for you that they found your car. I hope that the dealership pays for their mistake. Really weird how the keys got stolen from the lockbox.

unless the car is damaged I don't think that you'll be getting a replacement.
I'm curious, how many miles did the car travel? did they recharge the car? most car thieves wouldn't know how to charge the car.

Most stolen cars around here are damaged. Joy rides tend to be full GTA and often used in other crimes. I’d look extra hard…

Glad to hear the car was recovered, hope the OP gets the proper restitution for this nonsense.

Having been married to a prosecutor, I can tell you the 90% of criminals ain't that bright.

p.s. That being said, I'd def follow the advice given above -- you don't know HOW those idiots drove / abused that car. Could be hidden damage...

It's not only the abuse and potential hidden of visible damage. Most likely the car's title and Carfax history will show that the vehicle was stolen and recovered. That immediately reduces its resale value in case you keep the car.

I have two hidden in my car. Good arguments to not want it back, but it would be worth it to watch the purp walk/watch their sentencing hearing.

The air tag will show locations if there are other strangers with iPhone's with "Find my iPhone" turned on, but not tracking of where it went correct?

I think he said they left the keys hanging on a board in the dealer. That is all on the dealer. I think there is a locked box at my dealer and not in the public area that tracks who goes in and out of the key box.

That link pretty much sums things up--the car’s title is tainted and subsequently its value is too. Your dealer owes you big time and they better man up by giving you a new car and crediting the value of the vehicle they carelessly put at risk.

Latest update as per detective. Car was involved in a few high speed pursuits this week in Northern PA, and managed to elude the police. All the more reason not to want it back as they have most certainly abused it.

Sorry to hear. Did you have your mobile charger in the trunk? I’m curious if they’re charging it. If no, perhaps they would be stupid enough to charge at an EA station? Might be worth the police spending some time monitoring the nearest location, or have the police contact EA and see if they’re willing to notify them if/when the car plugs in.

If you are at all interested in Lane Keeping Assist or Innodrive down the road, you might want to think about adding ACC to the build.

Night Vision Assist was really the only thing I wanted but couldn’t get “off the rack”.
