- Porsche Taycan GT
I agree wholeheartedly! I went from a Tesla Model 3 to a Taycan GT. I miss the software in my Tesla. CarPlay makes me want to scream. I spend so much time in the Taycan having connectivity issues that I simply drive sometimes without music and I use speaker on my iPhone instead of the car’s speakers to talk while driving. It’s frustrating. The next issue is the sensitivity(for lack of a better word) of the undercarriage plate that protects the battery. Due to the potholes in my city, I have developed a lot of dings and dents, and unfortunately a small hole. Porsche suggests that I remove the plate (at a whopping cost of $7,000) just to determine the condition of the cooling system for the battery and the battery itself. While at Porsche service, I found out that they had at least 6 other Taycan awaiting plate removal. I was told that at least one of those Taycans will have a battery replacement at $20,000 cost (and it’s not set in stone that your insurance company will cover the plate removal and/or the battery replacement). My heater was out for several months last winter during the recall. They finally repaired it. This affected the defogger so when it rained, I rode with my windows cracked. I regret purchasing a Taycan. It looks great and it’s a PORSCHE, but I’d love to have my Tesla Model 3 back from the lucky guy I sold it to. I can’t wait to be right side up in my loan to trade in my Taycan. I’ve caught a few nails and bolts in my tires. Porsche will not repair the tires on this performance car (or at least that’s been my experience with Porsche service techs), so I’ve replaced 3 tires now. I’m so glad I purchased the tire insurance when I bought the car. I paid about $70 for each new tire replacement. That saved me a ton! I’d think long and hard before giving up a Tesla for a Taycan. I wish I’d known about this forum before I purchased.I moved from 911 + Model 3 to a Taycan. My wife kept her Model X.
Fit and finish is better in the Porsche, suspension & steering is better, seats are better, looks are better.
But Tesla is surprisingly good at many other things that I have now been missing. I underestimated how much good software matters to me nowadays. Media, nav, communication is all much much better in the Tesla. The standard audio in a model 3 is better (IMHO of course) than the Bose in my Tayan.
The Taycan is not universally the better car in my experience. If I could "undo" my decision, 911 + Model 3 or Model S is a better idea.
